Parameters
1. The cylinder’s advanced end position needs to be sensed by electrical limit switch.
Procedure
1. A wooden board is pushed out of the stacking magazine with a slide after pressing electrical
pushbutton.
2. After reaching the advanced end position, the slide is returned to its initial position automatically.
3. Advance and retract speeds to be adjustable.
Safety note
Limit pressure at the service unit for this exercise to a maximum of3.5 bar (350 kPa). Immediately
deactivate compressed air supply if the tubing slips off.

Discussion
Our experiment focused on the Electro-Pneumatic Circuit (2) for Position Sensing with Limit
Switches, aiming to achieve key objectives such as understanding signal storage in pneumatic
control systems and adjusting cylinder speeds.
In our setup, double-acting cylinders with one-way flow control valves were controlled by a 5/2-
way double solenoid valve, directing airflow for extension and retraction. Compressed air from the
compressor entered port 1 of the solenoid valve, while ports 2 and 4 connected to the cylinder for
extension and retraction, respectively.
The electrical pathway integrated limit switches to provide feedback on piston position. When the
push button was pressed, the circuit energized the relay and K1 switch, initiating cylinder extension.
Upon reaching the limit, the limit switch halted extension and directed compressed air for
retraction.
Our experiment demonstrated the synergy between pneumatic and electrical systems for precise
control and automation. Further optimization of this setup holds promise for various industrial
applications.
