finishes are specified.
8) Before concreting is commenced, the forms shall be thoroughly cleaned and freed
from all sawdust, tie wire, shavings, dust, dirt and other debris.
9) Removal of Forms: Remove non-supporting formwork as that on the side parts,
24 hours after casting concrete. Formwork supporting weight of concrete shall
not be removed until concrete has attained its designed 28-day compressive
strength which shall be determined by testing of field-cured specimens, but not
before 14 days starting from date of casting. Comply with the requirements of
ACI Codes regarding removal of formwork.

8.3.3 Fabrication and Installation of Reinforcing Steel Bars

1) Review the cutting list and bar bending schedule before cutting and bending of
rebar.
2) Main bars, ties and spirals shall have a minimum specified yield strength according
to design requirements conforming to the approved drawings and specification.
3) Steel will be cut and bent using suitable cutting & bending machine respectively
according to design requirements conforming to the approved drawings and
specification.
4) Fix the steel according to requirement at site considering the overlap length at
construction joints as indicated on the drawings. The lap joints shall be staggered.
5) Steel reinforcement shall be placed with concrete spacers on the bottom and sides
of the formwork to maintain the required concrete covering as specified in the IFC
drawings.
6) Spacing and sizes of ties, plumbs, lines and levels, rust and oil contamination shall
be checked prior to placement of concrete.
7) All the fabrication shall be as per the approved drawing and specification.
8) Reinforcing steel bars are securely tied together at intersections by ties in formwork
and held in position by spacers, chairs or other supports to prevent displacement
when placing of wet concrete.
9) The spacers are having the same grade of concrete poured.
10) Supports for reinforcing steel bars are sufficient in number and should have enough
strength to the reinforcement they support.
11) Walking on reinforcement by workers shall be avoided to prevent contamination
and displacement of the bars before placement of the concrete.
12) Any reinforcement steel bars left protruding from the concrete shall be protected
from dust and condensation by enclosing in polyethylene or by other suitable means
13) Any rusting which occurs on exposed bars before concreting shall be removed.
14) Complete rebar bending schedules and materials lists shall be shown on the
engineering drawings.
15) Reinforcement shall be supported on concrete blocks of a size to give the correct
cover to the reinforcement. Position, support and secure reinforcement against
displacement by formwork construction, or concrete placement operations. Locate
and support reinforcing by chairs, runners, bolsters, spacers and hangers, as
required.
16) Place reinforcement to obtain the minimum coverage for concrete protection.
17) Arrange, space and securely tie bars with 1.6 mm annealed wire to hold
reinforcement accurately in position during concrete placement operations.
18) Check reinforcement after fixing and before submitting to the Engineer for
approval. Allow time for the Engineer's inspection.
8.3.4 Mixing of Concrete
1) Concrete shall be ready-mixed, supplied by one single producer approved by the
Engineer. Supplier shall submit a written assurance that concrete complies with
specifications including control of temperature. For mixing of concrete follow the
requirements of ACI standard 305 (Recommended Practice for Hot Weather
Concreting) as well as ASTM C 94. Do not allow additional water to be added, unless
approved by the Engineer; reduce mixing and delivery time to 60 minutes.
Maintain the concrete temperature during mixing and placing at 30°C or below.

8.3.5 Surface conditions

1) Prior to any work of this section, inspect thoroughly the installation of other trades
as formwork, reinforcements, embedded items, conduits and pipes to verify that
concrete may be placed to lines and elevations indicated on the Drawings as well
as spacing and clearance from reinforcing bars. Make sure that areas are cleaned
and ready for casting concrete. Notify Engineer at least 48 hours before placing.
Do not proceed with concrete casting until written approval for pouring had been
issued by Engineer.

8.3.6 Concrete placement

Place concrete in compliance with the practices and recommendations of ACI-304.

1) Convey concrete from mixer to place of final deposit by methods that shall prevent
separation and loss of materials. Deposit concrete into forms at a free fall height not
greater than one meter above formwork to avoid segregation.
2) Place concrete at such a rate that concrete is at all times plastic and flows. Re-
tempered concrete shall not be used and maximum vertical drop in placing concrete
shall be 1.8 m.
3) Deposit concrete continuously in forms in horizontal layers of such thickness that no
concrete shall be placed on concrete which has hardened. If a section cannot be
placed continuously, provide construction joints as shown on Drawings and as
approved by the Engineer.
4) Consolidate concrete thoroughly with mechanical means during placement; work it
around embedded fixtures and into corners of forms. Compact concrete by hand
tamping and by mechanical vibration. Vibration of forms and reinforcements shall not
be permitted.
5) Levelling and Finishing: Finished floor and roof slab surfaces shall be true plane
surfaces with no deviation more than 6 mm when tested with a 3 m straight edge.
Provide slab depressions as required for the finishes indicated on the Drawings.
Slope slabs uniformly and evenly to floor drains. Provide monolithic finish, rough
slab finish or power machine finish as directed by the Engineer.
6) Joints: Locate and install construction joints so as not to impair strength and
appearance of the structure, as acceptable to the Engineer. Locate construction
joints in floor within the middle third of spans of slabs, beams and girders. Place
wall construction joints at 12 m maximum spacing and wall control joints at 6 m
maximum spacing. Provide expansion joints at locations shown on Drawings. Place
pre moulded joint filler at the locations shown on Drawings. Follow manufacturer's
installation details. Provide waterstops to form a continuous diaphragm in each
joint. Install waterstops at locations shown on Drawings and/or as directed by the
Engineer and as recommended by the manufacturer.
7) All necessary laboratory and site sampling and testing shall be done by approved
third party laboratory
8.3.7 Concrete Curing

1) Protect concrete against rapid temperature fluctuations, moisture loss, extreme

heat, mechanical injury and from rain or flowing water for a period of 7 days. Begin
curing immediately after the removal of forms or as soon as free moisture has
disappeared from concrete surfaces. Keep surface of concrete continuously wet by
covering it with water, cover concrete surfaces with the specified approved
absorptive cover and keep cover continuously wet. Cover concrete surface and
edges with the absorptive cover with 100 mm overlap.
2) Use Curing compound approved by Royal Commissioning of Riyadh city.

8.3.8 Concrete surface repair

approved by TRSDC and should be as per manufacturer’s recommendation.
2) All below ground concrete shall be fully encapsulated with one layer of a minimum
1.5mm thick self-adhesive rubber/bitumen polyethylene waterproof membrane.
Clean thoroughly the surface area prior to coating of self-adhesive rubber/bitumen
polyethylene waterproof membrane. The membrane shall extend to the top of
concrete elevation or a minimum of 250mm above the level of high point of finish
grade or paving as detailed in Standard drawing.

8.3.10 Protection (Isolation) Board

1) All below ground membranes and coatings shall be protected from damage due to
construction activities and backfilling by install of 12mm thick protection board
including necessary appurtenances to complete the work. Protection board shall at
least equivalent or as per approved protection board. After the bitumen coating is
checked and approved, cut protection board to size and prepare covering, apply
adhesive as specified.
