3. Operation:
a. Materials
All materials to be used are as per the approved material submittals.
a. Pipes support & fittings materials should be stored in proper dedicated places and provided with
proper protection. Timber supports spaced 1.5 m apart along the pipe can be used support the
pipes. The width of the stack should not exceed 3m. Pipes will be stored on the elevated racks and
ends of the pipes closed to prevent the entry of foreign materials.
c. INSTALLATION :
1. The installation of Fire Fighting pipes supports and fittings, shall be according to the approved
detailed shop drawings, installation details and also as per the recommendation of NFPA 13.
2. The pipe hangers shall be cross checked for the system compatibility and compliance with the
civil defense, NFPA specifications and all applicable standards and codes. Pipe support and
support spacing must be in accordance with the manufacturers guide line where applicable.
3. Pipe hangers shall be spaced at intervals as specified in our approved shop drawing.
4. A chalk line should be employed to assure all hangers and clips are installed in a straight line.
When employing the I- design centerline, distance of pipe hangers from the wall is critical for
fittings piping within the area.
5. Threaded piping will be made with Teflon tape or with a suitable pipe sealing compound (jute
and mastic combination) applied on male threads only. Ends of pipe will be reamed out before
being made up into fittings.
6. 2" and below sizes of the pipe are made threaded and 21/2” and above sizes are normally
grooved type. Groove can be made cut groove or roll groove.
7. For above 65 mm pipe fittings were changes in a pipe size occur, tapered reducer fittings will
be installed and for 50 mm and below factory manufactured bushing will be installed.
8. All piping must be rigidly supported by a combination network comprised of pie hangers and
the rigid support brackets.
4. Responsibilities:
4.1 The Project/Site Engineer will be responsible for the following:
4.1.1 To ensure that all the preparation and application works are carried out according to the
Contract Specification.
4.1.2 To ensure that the progress of works is carried out according to the planned program and as
per the approved Method Statement.
4.1.3 To ensure that all the equipments and materials required executing the work are available
according to the planned construction program.
4.1.4 To coordinate with the Main Contractor MEP Coordinator & Safety Officer for a safe and
proper execution of the works.
4.1.5 To provide all necessary information and distribute responsibilities to his construction team.
4.1.6 To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program and report to the
Construction Manager.
4.2.1 The foreman will carry out his duties by maintaining continuous coordination with the Site
Engineer on daily basis and ensure proper distribution of the workforce in the required and
planned locations.
4.2.2 To ensure that his assistant foreman/ charge hand are aware of the job requirements and
they have enough information to carry out their duties properly.
4.2.3 To ensure in consultation with the Site Engineer that the manpower involved in the works
are moving as agreed and planned for the work.
4.2.4 To ensure that the daily work is progressing as planned and as advised by the Site Engineer
of any requirement for additional resources.
4.2.5 To control disposal of waste materials according to the instructions received from the Site
Engineer.
4.2.6 To ensure full coordination with the Safety Officer to maintain safe working and proper
house keeping of the site, following the approved safety measures and further ensure that
all his working team are aware of the same to prevent accident and losses.
4.2.7 To inform the Project Engineer of the areas ready for inspection.
6. Work Permit
6.1 All work will be carried out through the work permit system.
