This document discusses several environmental issues including climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. It notes that climate change is caused by greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels and deforestation, and is causing rising sea levels, extreme weather, and disproportionately impacting marginalized communities. However, solutions exist like transitioning to renewable energy, improving efficiency, and restoring ecosystems. The document calls all people to join the global movement for environmental justice and sustainability by taking actions like using public transit, planting trees, and supporting campaigns to reduce emissions and protect the planet.

Did you know that the world is already 1.

2 °C warmer than pre industrial times and

every fraction of a degree counts. Did you know that up to 1 million species are
threatened with extinction? Did you know that marginalized minoritized tribal,
indigenous and low income communities are experiencing and projected to continue to
experience significant negative impacts and a disproportionate burden from climate
change. These are just some of the environmental issues that we are facing today
and they are not only affecting our planet but also our health, our livelihoods and
our human rights. In this video, we will explore some of the causes and
consequences of these issues. And more importantly, some of the solutions and
actions that we can take to make a difference. This is a call to action for all of
us to join the global movement for environmental justice and sustainability. One of
the most urgent and complex environmental issues that we are facing is climate
change. Climate change is caused by the increase of greenhouse gas emissions in the
atmosphere, mainly from burning fossil fuels, deforestation and agriculture.
Climate change has serious implications for our planet and our lives. Such as
rising sea levels, melting ice caps, extreme weather events, droughts, floods,
wildfires and storms. These impacts are not evenly distributed as some regions and
communities are more vulnerable and less resilient than others. For example, the US
Pacific Northwest recently experienced an extreme heat wave unlike any other in
modern history, which disproportionately affected historically underserved
communities, particularly low income and communities of color. Another example is
the devastating effects of hurricanes, Katrina, Irma, Maria and Harvey, which hit
hard the communities marginalized based on race and ethnicity and communities of
lower socio-economic status. However, there is hope and there is action. One of the
most effective and feasible solutions to climate change is to reduce our greenhouse
gas emissions and transition to a low carbon economy. This means using renewable
energy sources such as solar wind and hydro instead of fossil fuels, improving
energy efficiency and conservation, promoting sustainable transportation such as
public transit, cycling and electric vehicles and restoring and protecting natural
ecosystems such as forests, wetlands and oceans. These actions not only help
mitigate climate change but also bring multiple benefits for our environment, our
health, our economy and our society. For example, renewable energy sources can
reduce air pollution which causes millions of deaths every year. Energy efficiency
and conservation can save money and resources. Sustainable transportation can
reduce traffic congestion and noise and natural ecosystems can provide essential
services such as water purification, carbon sequestration and biodiversity
conservation. There are many examples of successful initiatives and projects that
are implementing these solutions around the world. For example, the Korea
Superconducting Atomic Advanced research Qatar managed to sustain a nuclear fusion
reaction for 30 seconds at temperatures exceeding 100 million degrees Celsius,
nearly seven times hotter than the core of the sun. This is a significant milestone
for the field of nuclear fusion which could potentially provide a clean and
unlimited source of energy in the future. Another example is the Count Us in
campaign which aims to inspire 1 billion people to take practical steps and
challenge their leaders to act more boldly on. Climate organizers of the platform
say that if 1 billion people took action, they could reduce as much as 20% of
global carbon emissions. Therefore, we urge you to join us in the fight against
climate change and support the transition to a low carbon economy. You can start by
taking some simple actions such as switching to renewable energy using public
transportation, planting a tree or joining a global movement like count us and
every action counts and every person matters together, we can make a difference for
our planet and our future. In conclusion, we have seen that environmental issues
such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and others are not only
affecting our planet but also our health, our livelihoods and our human rights. We
have also seen that there are solutions and actions that we can take to protect the
environment and fight for environmental justice and sustainability. This is a call
to action for all of us to join the global movement for environmental justice and
sustainability. We have the power and the responsibility to make a change. We have
the opportunity and the duty to create a better world. We have the vision and the
hope to build a brighter future. The time to act is now the place to start is here.
The people to lead are us. Thank you for watching.
