Known issues in StoreOnce version 4.3.5 software
VSA consumed duplicate number of licenses after a hard power off
StoreOnce VSA consumes duplicate licenses when you forcibly shut down both StoreOnce
and AutoPass License Server (APLS).
The issue occurs with the following sequence of steps:
1. Hard shutdown of VSA and APLS that are hosted on the same ESXi.
2. Power on VSA. When the VSA boots up, power on the APLS. At this point the APLS
shows duplicate license used by the VSA, until the first set of license expires.
Workaround:

Enabling DHCP for iLO networking with the StoreOnce Management Console makes the
system unreachable for iLO from another subnet:
Enabling DHCP for iLO networking from the StoreOnce Management Console incorrectly sets
the default gateway to 0.0.0.0, making the system unreachable for iLO from another subnet.
This issue does not apply to StoreOnce system networking or iLO configuration through the
iLO console.
Because the systems are preconfigured with DHCP, this issue only occurs if the system is
configured for statically addressed networking and then is reconfigured to DHCP. If this issue
occurs, use the iLO console to enable DHCP for iLO.
Hardware monitoring is unable to determine server status due to inability to communicate
with iLO:
Hardware monitoring might not be able to communicate with iLO because the iLO security
state is set to a value other than Production.
Workaround: To resolve this issue:
If the security state is not set to FIPS, launch the iLO web console, navigate to Security >
Encryption Settings, and set the iLO security state to Production.
If the iLO security state is set to FIPS, reset the iLO security state from FIPS to
Production.
If a system is added into a federation during an upgrade, the system becomes unreachable:
Do not add a system to or remove a system from a Federation while the remote system that is
being added or removed from the system is being upgraded. If the system being added
during upgrade shows as "unreachable", remove the system from the Federation and then add
it to the Federation.
Unable to add a federation member or a federation member becomes unreachable using IPv6.
If IPv6 stateless auto address configuration (SLAAC) is enabled on the network router and
static IPv6 addresses are configured on the StoreOnce federation members in the same range
as the SLAAC prefix, the StoreOnce federation lead system will sometimes pick the SLAA-
configured address instead of the statically assigned address.
To resolve this issue either:
Disable SLAAC on the IPv6 router.
Make sure that the statically assigned IPv6 addresses do not share the same prefix as the
SLAAC addresses.
Unable to download large tickets with Internet Explorer:
Downloading a large ticket when running the Management Console with Internet Explorer
can fail without a message.
Workaround: Use Edge, Chrome, or Firefox.

Replication and Catalyst Data Services processes fail to start after a reboot when the
password encryption key could not be retrieved following a withdrawal from an external key
manager:
The services failed to start after a reboot because Catalyst or Replication cannot retrieve the
key that is used to encrypt the client passwords, following a withdrawal from an external key
manager.
Workaround: Restore the key store backup that was created during the enroll process and
reboot.
Unable to add ESXi host with lockdown mode enabled:
This issue applies to VSAs on ESXi hosts managed by the High Availability Manager. If the
lockdown mode of ESXi hosts is Enabled (Strict) and there is a failover, the High Availability
Manager removes the host from the cluster. When attempting to add the host back to the
cluster, vCenter Server throws the error Permission to perform this operation was denied. You
do not hold privilege "System > View> on folder "urn:vmomi:Folder:ha-folder-root:". This issue
happens even for the Administrator user.
Workaround: Reinstall and reconfigure the ESXi server.
Unable to authenticate SNMP connection when setting up password through the GUI
An issue has been identified when setting up a password for SNMP configuration on the
StoreOnce Management Console (Settings > Notifications > SNMP), using the local character
set for a given language.
The StoreOnce Management Console allows for local character sets to be used when entering
a password. However, the SNMP authentication fails due to the unique local characters.
Workaround: If the password contains characters not unique to the local character set, then
the SNMP connection will be authenticated.
Data volume goes offline and data services are stopped when power cables to the storage
enclosure are disconnected and then reconnected, or if both SAS cables are disconnected and
then reconnected
This issue applies to Gen 4 Plus hardware systems running StoreOnce 4.3.0 or later.
The issue occurs when either or all of the following occur:
While the power to the server head is still intact, power to the enclosure is disconnected
and connected back again, causing intermittent power disruption to the enclosure.
While the power to the server head is still intact, both of the SAS cables connecting the
storage controller to the enclosure are disconnected and connected back again.
The following events will be seen on the StoreOnce GUI under the Event Log:
The volume has failed due to more drive failures than the RAID level can tolerate.
Data storage has gone offline. Data services will be stopped. Contact technical support.
Workaround: To provide redundancy to hardware and backup data, see the Best practice for
Hardware redundancy and backup
1. While the power to the server head is still intact, if the power cables to the enclosure are
disconnected:
a. Gracefully shut down the server head and disconnect the power.
b. Connect the power back to the storage enclosure.
c. Connect back the power to the server head and start the server.
https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/print?softwareId=MTX_b5e680f2428e4f96a32d1b3965 9/27

2. While the power to the server head is still intact, if both of the SAS cables connecting the
storage controller to the enclosure are disconnected:
a. Gracefully shut down the server head and disconnect the power.
b. Connect the SAS cables back to the storage enclosure.
c. Connect back the power to the server head and start the server.
Alert seen during a reboot after an upgrade or QR to version 4.3.2
On very rare scenarios, after an upgrade or QR to version 4.3.2, Hardware Monitoring
generates the following alert after every reboot:
The hardware report cache is not updating
Workaround: No action required. Ignore the alert. The system will be GREEN.
SSH access to StoreOnce VSA Deployment with Azure disabled
When deploying a StoreOnce VSA using Microsoft Azure, there is an option to either use a
username or an SSH public key as a login credential to the VSA. If this option is selected
instead of a username, SSH access will be disabled.
An error message No supported Authentication methods available(server sent: public key)
error message is displayed when you attempt to log in as hpeadmin or hpsupport.
Workaround: Refrain from using SSH option while creating a VM, instead use a username.
After storage is configured on a Microsoft Azure VSA, the storage page on the GUI shows
incorrect information.
This issue applies to the Microsoft Azure VSA for the Azure SKU Standard A6 and Azure SKU
Standard D15_V3.
When a user configures storage on a Microsoft Azure VSA, the GUI shows data volume
information along with the virtual drives. The disks are shown as unconfigured.
End storage is not returning some of the required unique IDs for data volumes. The user will
still be able to see the size of configured and unconfigured storage.
Workaround: This does not have any impact on functionality. Hence no action is required.
Initial reboot after an upgrade takes a long time
First reboot after an upgrade to version 4.3.5 could take longer, up to one hour to complete.
Workaround: Do not reboot your system in the interim.
System fails to communicate with iLO due to a NAND failure, but reports that the storage
controller is in a failed or missing state
If a system has failed to communicate with iLO, a user may see the following events in order:
1. The server status cannot be determined due to an inability to communicate with the iLO.
2. Ensure that the iLO idle time out is set to 30 minutes or less. Attempt to reboot the iLO if
accessible via Ethernet. Otherwise, shut down the server, pull the power plug on the
server, restore power to the server and boot to operational mode. If the condition persists,
contact technical support for further assistance.
3. The storage controller is missing or has failed.
In this scenario, the storage controller has not failed. This issue is only related to iLO and is
due to a NAND failure.
Workaround: Contact HPE Support for further assistance. This issue will be fixed in a later
release.
Data services may fail to stop due to internal processes timing out
https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/print?softwareId=MTX_b5e680f2428e4f96a32d1b3965 10/27

When stopping the data services, internal processes may fail to stop in the required time. This
results in an error on the StoreOnce GUI stating that data services have encountered a
problem.
Workaround: The data services can be started as normal. This issue will be fixed in a later
release.
600 LFF Enclosure firmware upgrade fails through the StoreOnce GUI after adding a new
enclosure on Gen10+ systems
The following issue occurs on HPE StoreOnce 3660, 5260 and 5660 systems running
software versions 4.3.2 and below.
When connecting a new 600 LFF storage enclosure, the following issues occur:
The enclosure firmware update process will stop responding, causing a timeout.
Alerts will be triggered stating that the storage controller and cluster status cannot be
determined.
Attempting to reboot the StoreOnce system from the GUI will fail.
Hardware monitoring processes will crash.
Workaround: Multiple retries of upgrading the firmware will resolve the issue.
Attached storage reports more than the maximum value of configured attachable storage
during expansion
The following issue occurs on Gen 10 and Gen 10+ systems, with 600 LFF and D3650
enclosures.
After attaching the last enclosure during storage expansion, the StoreOnce GUI will report
more than the maximum attachable storage value for the system. This occurs just after
powering on the enclosure, before storage configuration.
Example:
Maximum attachable storage for this system is: 200TB Attached storage: 223.8 TB
Workaround: The reporting issue is resolved after storage configuration is complete.
StoreOnce GUI unable to correctly adjust the time for Daylight Savings Time, after the time-
zone is set to Americas or Sao Paulo
On StoreOnce systems running 4.3.0, the time/date is displayed one hour ahead on the
StoreOnce GUI when the time-zone is set to Americas or Sao Paulo.
Workaround: Please use the StoreOnce CLI to obtain the correct time if required. This issue
will be fixed in a future release.
Data services stop when I/O module (P04446-001) is replaced into the D3650 enclosure
The following issue occurs on StoreOnce systems with the StoreOnce D3650 storage
enclosures installed.
During a service action on a StoreOnce system, if a D3650 enclosure I/O module (P04446-
001) is replaced while the server and enclosures are online, the partner I/O module will be
restarted and data services will go offline.
The enclosure rear 7-segment display will show the following:
1. The replaced I/O module will turn off.
2. The partner I/O module will report a A6 - Inter ESP communication error.
3. The Health and Status LED of the replaced I/O module will turn green.

Workaround: Replace the failed HDD first and then attempt the quick restore. For
instructions, see Re-imaging the system using the QR ISO.
Best practice for Hardware redundancy and backup
Best practice for physical hardware redundancy and backup 3-2-1 principle.
For the hardware appliances
a. AC power to the node and the JBODs must be provided by dual PDUs - one PDU to the first
PSUs in the Node and the JBODs, the other PDU to the second PSUs in the Node and the JBODs.
Ideally each PDU should be provided with its own AC phase.
Redundant power best practice
b. The dual SAS cabling must be correctly installed as per user instructions and SAS cabling
diagrams to maintain the redundant hardware design of the system.
For the hardware and software appliances
c. Backup 3-2-1 strategy
3 Copies of your data
2 Copies on different media. For example, StoreOnce Catalyst copy of a backup
1 Copy off-site. For example, StoreOnce CloudBank copy of backup /another StoreOnce with
replicated copies (or Catalyst copies) located in a different data centre
Best practice for capacity upgrades
StoreOnce 3660, 5260 and 5660 Systems support only OFFLINE expansion when performing
capacity upgrades.
For more information on capacity upgrade planning considerations, please see the StoreOnce
3660, 5260 and 5660 Systems Capacity Upgrade Guide.
Upgrading StoreOnce Systems
Prerequisites
You have obtained the StoreOnce upgrade package (.star file). The upgrade package file is

Remote support
Remote support is available with supported devices as part of your warranty or contractual
support agreement. It provides intelligent event diagnosis, and automatic, secure submission of
hardware event notifications to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which initiates a fast and accurate
resolution based on the service level of your product. Hewlett Packard Enterprise strongly
recommends that you register your device for remote support.
If your product includes additional remote support details, use search to locate that information.

your convenience. Some parts do not qualify for CSR. Your Hewlett Packard Enterprise authorized
service provider will determine whether a repair can be accomplished by CSR.
For more information about CSR, contact your local service provider.
