The document contains questions and answers about phases of the moon, planets, asteroids, satellites, constellations, and definitions of terms like meteor, orbit, remote sensing, and more. It provides details on phases of the moon being the different shapes it takes over a month, Mars appearing reddish in color, asteroids being located between Mars and Jupiter, and INSAT being an artificial satellite. It also defines constellations as recognizable star patterns and names four constellations. Additionally, it explains why distance between stars is measured in light years and what it means for a star to be a certain number of light years away.

Chapter-17 Test assignment
1-Define phases of moon. 2-The planet which appear reddish in colour is ________. 3-Asteriods are found between the orbit of ____and ______. 4- __________ is an artificial satellite. 5- There are _________ planets in our solar system. 6- A celestial body that revolve around a planet is called _______. 7-In which part of sky constellation Orion is seen_______. 8-What is a constellation? Name any four constellations. 9-Why is the distance between stars expressed in light years? What do you understand by the statement that a star is eight light years away from the Earth? 10- Define the following terms- (a) Meteor (b) Orbit (c) Remote sensing (d) Solar system (e) Celestial objects (f) Asteroids (g) Meteorites Solutions- 1-Phases of Moon- The Moon changes its shape everyday over a period one month and this repeates over and over again. These different shapes of moon are called phases of Moon. 2- Mars 3- Mars and Jupiter 4- INSAT 5- Eight 6-Satellite 7- South Western sky 8- The group of stars that forms a recognizable pattern in the sky is known as a constellation. Four constellations are; Ursa Major, Orion, Ursa minor, Cassiopeia. 9- The distance of the star from the earth and the distance between the stars is very huge. It is troublesome to express this distance in kilometre (km). Therefore, these huge distances are expressed in light-years. One light-year is equal to the distance travelled by the light in one single year. One light-year is equal to 9.46 x 1012 km. A distance of the star from the Earth is eight light-years. This means the distance between them is equal to the distance travelled by the light in eight years, i.e. distance of the star is 8 x (9.6 x 1012) = 7.6 x 1013 km away from Earth. 10- (a)- - Meteor-Small objects that sometimes enter the Earth’s atmosphere with a very high speed. These objects are called Meteors. (b) 11-Orbit- The elliptical path in which a planet revolves around the sun is called orbit.
(c) Remote Sensing- It is to find out the details of an object or a place
without being there personally with the help of satellites.
(d) Solar system-The total system of a large number of celestial bodies
revolving around the sun is called solar system.
(e) Celestial objects- Objects which are located outside of Earth’s
atmosphere such as the Sun, the Moon, an asteroid and Planets are called celestial objects. (f) Asteriods- Hard rocky bodies that revolve around the sun between orbit of mars and Jupiter. (g) Meteorites- The unevaporated part of meteor reaches the earth surface is called a meteorite.
