ELECTRONICS AND ROBOTICS

FIRST QUARTER
SUPERPOSITION PRINCIPLE (COULOMBS’ LAW)
ACTIVITY SHEET NO. 4A

NAME: MERYL DEVINE GRACE F. BERMUDEZ DATE: November 17, 2021

GRADE AND SECTION: 10-RUTHERFORD SCORE: _____________________

Things to remember:
1. Force is inversely proportional to the square of the distances between the charges.
Therefore, if the distance increases by a factor of 2, the force decreases by the factor
of 4.
2. Force is proportional to the strength of each charge.
3. When the two charges have the same sign (positive or negative), the force between
them is repulsive force because like charge repel.
4. When the charges have opposite signs, the force between them is attractive force
because unlike charges attract.

Answer the following questions.

1. What happens to the force between two charges if the distance between them is
tripled?
Response: When the distance between two charges is tripled, the force between
them will decrease 9 times.

2. What happens to the force between two charges if the distance between them is
quadrupled?
Response: When the distance between two charges is tripled, the force between
them will decrease 16 times.

3. What happens to the force between two charges if the distance between them is cut
in half?
Response: When the distance between two charges is cut in half, the force between
two charges will increase 4 times.

4. What happens to the force between two charges if the magnitude of one charge is
doubled?
Response: If magnitude of one charge is doubled, the force between the two
charges will increase 2 times.

5. What happens to the force between two charges if the magnitude of both charges is
doubled?
Response: if the magnitude of one charge is doubled then the magnitude of the
force is also doubled, therefore the force between them will increase 4 times.

6. What happens to the force between two charges if the magnitude of both charges is
doubled and the distance?
Response: If the magnitude of one charge is doubled then the magnitude of the
force is also doubled, the force between them will remain the same.
7. What happens to the force between two charges if the magnitude of both charges is
doubled and the distance between them is cut in half?
Response: If the magnitude of both charges is doubled and the distance between
them is cut in half, the force between them will increase by 16 times.
