Supporting statements develop the main idea by providing specific facts, reasons, or examples.

As a general rule, young people in my city do not start dating until they are 16 years old. Before that
age, people go out in groups and not in pairs. Often a family member comes as a companion. The
reason for this is cultural. In my country, the family unit is very strong and parents worry a lot. For
example, when I was 15, my parents never let me go out with my girlfriend unless my brother or his
sister came with us. Maybe things are different in the city, but this is the situation in the town where I
live.
