Application for Ethics Review of a New
Protocol

The study will focus on the psychological distresses faced by single mothers residing in the City
of San Fernando, La Union. The goal of the study is to gain insight into the psychological
distresses faced by single mothers and to develop recommendations to address these issues.
The research will use a qualitative research design and a descriptive phenomenology method
to gather data from participants until data saturation is reached. The participants were
selected based on the qualifications of a solo parent as defined by Republic Act/RA 8972. The
study will begin with a questionnaire to collect basic information, followed by face-to-face
interviews with each participant. The questions will be formulated based on the available
literature and feedback from preliminary testing. The researchers will keep in touch with
single mothers they know, and those who were referred to them by friends, acquaintances,
and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
