1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
CMV was requested by CRUISE SAUDI to conduct a bathymetric survey as a part the
development in AL WAJH city, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The purpose of this survey was to perform MBES survey in proposed area of interest by the
client to assess existing structures/bathymetry and produce an IHO order 1a quality results in
different formats for all the area.
The geophysical survey of the inshore area and proposed route corridor was conducted by
CMV between 26 and 29 December 2022, using multibeam echo sounders with motion
sensors, all in conjunction with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
This document details the technical and operational aspects of the project including survey
methodology, personnel and equipment used and the results from the survey covering
bathymetry and seabed feature information.
All coordinates in this report are referenced to WGS84 Spheroid, UTM Projection, Zone 37
North, CM 39° East.
All survey-related work was carried out in accordance with client requirements and CMV’s
standing survey work practices.

2.3 VERTICAL DATUM
All water depths are reduced to Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) using predicted tides from a tide gauge
installed in AL WAJH by GASGI.
2.4 TIME
All survey data were logged in (UTC). Local time is UTC +3:00 hours.
The bathymetric survey was conducted from the Survey vessels KAU-1 and KAU-2, owned and operated
by KAU.
All vessels were inspected for safety measures prior to the survey.

4.0 DATA PROCESSING, INTERPRETATION AND CHARTING
4.1 Data Processing
All data were logged in .S7K and .Kmall formats and processed using CARIS HIPS&SIPS.
The multibeam data have been processed to a 1.0 m × 1.0 m cell size.
Bathymetry:
Water depths are reduced to Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) using observed tides.
Minimum water depth within survey area: 1.4m
Maximum water depth within survey area: 194m
In general, the seabed within the middle of northern portion of the survey area was observed to be
slightly undulating and deep with steep seabed gradients over the sides of the area. The seabed was
highly irregular with complex water column structure area over the sides. In the southern-east part has a
small bay with inlet of 90m width

4.3 QUALITY CONTROL
This project is conducted with respect to IHO 1a order as per client request.
According to the IHO standards, following order 1a criteria were implemented during survey
(see IHO table 5)

4.3.2 TVU
Total vertical uncertainty is a component of total propagated uncertainty (TPU) calculated in the vertical
dimension. TVU is a one-dimensional quantity with all contributing vertical measurement uncertainties
included.
Where a =0.5 m b =0.013 for order 1a, and d is the average depth in the survey area which is 55m; then
TVU is ± 0.9m
The following is a 2-D map of the survey area showing the calculated standard deviation for 1a order for
the entire performance of this project.
17
FIGURE 7: 2-D MAP WITH STTANDARD DEVIATION LAYER
18
The actual performance of the survey is shown in the following figures.
Figure 8 indicates the overall performance of 5 selected survey lines. From calculated TVU (±0.9m), the
lines are within order 1a.
From figure 9, 95.53% of the conducted survey is fulfilling IHO order 1a.
19
4.3.3 THU
Total horizontal uncertainty is a component of total propagated uncertainty (TPU) calculated in the
horizontal dimension. THU is a two-dimensional quantity with all contributing horizontal measurement
uncertainties included.
