1 Overview
RiX series of expansion unit is interfaced to a RiX base unit connected in any net-
work system (CANopen, DeviceNet, etc).
Variety of I/O units is available in RiX series. I/O types include DC/AC digital I/Os
and various analog I/Os. Each node in a network can consist of base unit and
maximum 3 expansion units. A node can have maximum 64 digital I/O points. A
base unit can have maximum 16 digital I/Os and 4 analog I/Os. An expansion
unit can have maximum 16 digital I/Os.
The highlighting features of RiX series of expansion units are
1. Compact sized unit can be fitted in junction boxes and limited space. Unit
size matches to that of terminal block of twenty CST terminals.
2. Ergonomic but robust housing ensure stable operation of unit.
3. Units can be mounted on DIN rail or panel in any orientation enabling easy
installation.
4. One touch I/O connections guarantee simple and fast connections without
any tool and ensures reduction in wiring time and maintenance free opera-
tion. Just insert and push cable to make connection. Press lever and pull
cable to disconnect it.
5. Each I/O terminal provides check terminal hole for a multi meter probe to
measure potential at terminal without removing I/O wire. Hence facilitates
easy diagnostics on site.
6. Optional I/O wiring arm/s enables 2-wire, 3-wire sensor connections and 2-
wire actuator connections.
7. LED indications with clear nomenclature provided on the front side for unit,
and I/O status and enables easy diagnosis and troubleshooting locally on
site.
8. No settings for expansion units.

Expansion unit has on board micro controller. Network power supply of 24 VDC
supplied to expansion units through 10-pin flat cable. Expansion unit has built in
DC to DC converter to generate 5 VDC required for its operation.
After interface with base or other expansion, it gets powered ON. On board micro
controller does self test, gets allocated expansion ID as per connection
sequence. Then base unit establishes connection by configuring it and starts
data exchange.
Digital I/O section is optically isolated from micro controller. Status indicating
LEDs are directly controlled by micro controller.

Follow the steps below and refer figures 10 and 11 to mount the unit in the panel.
1. Hold the unit against the panel.
2. Place a center punch or similar tool through the holes of panel mount clamps
and mark a center point on the panel.
3. Remove base unit. Drill and tap two holes (diameter 4 mm) in the panel.
4. Place the unit matching the holes. Insert a screw (diameter 4 mm, length 10
mm) through each of the two mounting holes. Tighten the screws so that the
unit is firmly held on the panel.
It is necessary to un-tighten the screws completely to remove the unit from panel.

A too long striping length may cause a short circuit with the neighboring cable.
A too short length cause cable disconnection.
If standard cable is used, wire the stripped cable by twisting to prevent it from
becoming loose.
For single core cable and stranded cable with lug, follow the steps below to
make I/O connections.
1. Push wired lug or single copper conductor through the terminal connection
point.

6 Accessories : I/O Wiring Arm
6.1 Overview
I/O wiring arm is an optional accessory with ordering code 6920. It facilitates
2-wire sensor/ actuator connections and 3-wire sensor connections on Base and
expansion unit. It can be attached to the base and expansion unit. The figure
below shows isometric view of I/O wiring arm with nomenclature.
Two types of spacers (2 nos. each) are provided separately to provide support
to I/O wiring arm when unit is mounted on DIN rail.

To remove a unit with I/O wiring arm attached and mounted on DIN rail, it is nec-
essary to detach I/O wiring arm first. After detaching I/O wiring arm/s, unit can
be removed from DIN rail.
6.4 Wiring
I/O wiring arm is used to provide extra terminals to ground and common con-
nections. It is useful to interface 2-wire sensor/ actuators and 3-wire sensors.
One I/O wiring arm provides 20 terminals. First 10 terminals are electrically con-
nected together internally. Remaining 10 terminals are electrically connected
together internally. The subsequent sections explain connections of sensors and
actuators to relevant base/ expansion unit.

User can connect all 20 terminals together electrical-
ly by connecting two groups by external link.
Here, one I/O wiring arm is attached. Field input device is connected for source
type of operation. Common point on I/O terminal block on base unit is connect-
ed to ground. On I/O wiring arm, any one terminal is connected to 24 VDC sup-
ply. Hence, first 10 terminals on I/O wiring arm get connected to 24 VDC field
input supply. All 20 terminals can be connected together electrically by external
link as shown in the figure above. Field input device is connected within one ter-
minal on I/O wiring arm and input terminal on base unit.

point on I/O terminal block on base unit is connected to line. On I/O wiring arm,
any one terminal is connected to neutral. Hence, first 10 terminals on I/O wiring
arm get connected to neutral. All 20 terminals can be connected together elec-
trically by external link. Field output device is connected within one terminal on
I/O wiring arm and output terminal on base unit.

connected to ground. On one I/O wiring arm, any one terminal is connected to
24 VDC supply. Hence, all 20 terminals on I/O wiring arm get connected to 24
VDC field input supply. On second I/O wiring arm, any one terminal is connect-
ed to ground. Hence, first 10 terminals on I/O wiring arm, get connected to
ground. All 20 terminals can be connected together electrically by external link.
Power supply for field input device is drawn from respective terminals on I/O
wiring arms.
