Lesson Outline:
o Start with a quick icebreaker activity that encourages students to share something
unique about their cultural background or family traditions.
o Ask students what they understand by "intercultural understanding."
o Write their ideas on the board and discuss common themes.
2. Exploring Local Diversity (20 minutes):
o Divide students into small groups and assign each group a local community or
cultural group within their environment (e.g., immigrant community, religious group,
ethnic neighborhood, etc.).
o Provide resources or suggest research methods for students to learn about the
assigned group's:
History and traditions
Values and beliefs
Languages and customs
Challenges and opportunities
3. Sharing and Learning (20 minutes):
o Each group presents their findings about their assigned community, using creative
means like presentations, poems, short skits, or artwork.
o Encourage active listening and respectful questioning during presentations.
o Facilitate a class discussion about the similarities and differences they discovered
between different communities.
o Divide students into new groups and ask them to choose one conflict scenario from
the map.
o Each group brainstorms and role-plays ways to peacefully resolve the chosen
conflict scenario using skills like:
Active listening and empathy
Respectful communication and dialogue
Seeking common ground and compromise
Celebrating diversity and valuing differences
