Active Filters

ELC 2702
Dr. Mohamed El-Dakroury
Filter Concept
A filter circuit is like a sieve. It allows some things through and holds back others. In this
case we are talking about AC frequencies. Some frequencies pass through the filter
while others are rejected.
Types of Filters
Passive Filters vs. Active Filters

𝑗𝜔 − 𝜔𝑜
𝑇 𝑗𝜔 = −
𝑗𝜔 + 𝜔𝑜

𝜔 2 + 𝜔𝑜2
𝑇 𝑗𝜔 = =1
𝜔2 + 𝜔𝑜2

−𝜔

−𝜔𝑜 −1 −1
|𝑇(𝑗𝜔) = − 𝜔 = −tan − tan
tan−1 −𝜔𝑜 𝜔𝑜

𝜔𝑜 𝜔𝑜 𝜔𝑜

|𝑇(𝑗𝜔𝑜 ) = −45° − 45° = −90°
