How IT helps to reduce the digital divide and improve the standard of living in
Malaysia?

1. Digital Divide is the distance between the individuals who approach computers, for
example, data, web and information to the individuals who are most certainly not
(Rouse, 2014). This term is well known in the late 1990 inside researchers, strategy
creators, and support gatherings. There are a few factors that reason advanced
partition issue in Malaysia. One of the variables is the diverse way of life among
urban and rustic areas. Populace in urban areas can without much of a stretch access
the web contrast with populace in country zone. This is on the grounds that
provincial region as yet inadequate regarding the media transmission foundation
contrasted with urban zone (Miniwatts Marketing, 2019).
Income contrasts additionally become one of the elements that reason a significant
gap in digital access. Since the most recent ICT innovations and access cost is high, it
is simpler for significant compensation workers to bear the cost of the most recent
advancements or to get to ICT contrasted with low pay workers. This pay imbalances
lead to digital gaps. Different variables that impacts the digital divide is work
environment. Various occupations have various ways on how they get to the ICT
advancements and some work doesn't require ICT, for example, development
workers. It causes a significant various gap as far as ICT aptitude.

2. To reduce the gaps of digital divide, first we need to realize what are the issues. The
issue of digital divide in Malaysia right presently isn't each place is given web, for
example, rustic zone contrasted with the urban area which have signals and cables.
Second is financial contrasts between individuals, for example, income and education
that influences their capacity to get to the web. Third is contrasts among creating
and rising countries of the accessibility of web. By and large, we can see that
probably the most concerning issue of digital divide is from web get to that can't be
use all through the nation.
So how is that being an issue to the nation? Indeed, we could state that today
education framework requires rapid web association and stable for video on request,
video conferencing and virtual homerooms. Not every person can move or make a
trip effortlessly to urban areas to get web get to and instructed. The issue of digital
divide in Malaysia are likewise the unbalance and disparity access of technologies.
While advanced selection is high because of devices less expensive value today, yet
real appropriation for devices in the market for rustic regions is more earnestly. This
will cause monetary gap particularly when nature of access is low to the
undeserved(Monroe, West, Antonio, & Us, 2003) (AZMI, 2019). In 2015,
contemplated found that solitary 62% of organizations in Malaysia were associated
with the web, while 46% approach fixed broadband administrations. This is on the
grounds that specific regions are not the objective market of broadcast
communications organizations and probably won't have towels to distinguish.

3. Nowadays, the Malaysian government is working hard to improve the lives of the
people especially in rural areas to keep pace with the advancement of ICT
technology. Years before, the government has implemented many programs to
improve and bridge the technological gap between urban and rural areas. Some of
the programs implemented are 'Kampung Tanpa Wayar', 'Pusat Internet 1Malaysia',
and 'Klik Dengan Bijak'. These measures have also affected the economic
development of the countryside and indirectly increased the source of income of the
people. In addition, the government has also upgraded Internet access in Malaysia by
opening new and remote Internet access points.

In terms of Internet access speed, the government is also upgrading according to

current technological developments. For example, nowadays in big cities, you can
surf the Internet at 4G LTE speed and now that 5G technology has just been
launched, the Malaysian government is preparing to upgrade from 4G LTE to 5G. So,
overall, the government has been working hard to help improve the quality of life in
Malaysia with the help of the latest technologies. The programs implemented have a
positive impact on many and reduce the disparity in technology usage between urban
and rural communities.
