1 SmartDesign Overview

The SmartDesign is a PV system design platform, which is used to assist the PV


plant system design. It provides information such as the PV installation effect
drawing, material list, price list, total quotation, and revenue for the PV owner,
and intuitively displays the advantages and benefits of a PV design solution.

Functions

Project Creation Design a PV system by adding a project. Multiple


solutions can be designed for a project.

Solution Add, modify, or delete a solution for a project.


Management

Solution Comparison Compare different solutions of a project.

Client Configuration
Use a PC that meets the following requirements to access the system with better
experience:
● Resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels (optimal)
● Operating system (OS): mainstream
● Browser: Google Chrome 79, Firefox ESR 68, or their later versions

2 Registration and Login

Registering an Account
NOTE

If you already have a SmartPVMS account, you can use this account to access the
SmartDesign without repeated registration.

1. In the address box of a browser, enter https://smartdesign.huawei.com, and


press Enter to go to the login page.
2. Click Installer Registration and complete the registration as prompted.

Logging In to the SmartDesign


1. In the address box of a browser, enter https://smartdesign.huawei.com, and
press Enter to go to the login page.
2. Enter the user name and password, and click Log In.

Getting More Help

In the upper right corner of the SmartDesign page, click to open the help
panel and obtain more operation guides.

Logging Out of the SmartDesign

In the upper right corner of the SmartDesign page, click and choose Log Out.

3 Project Creation

3.1 Creating a Project


To design a PV system, first you need to add a project. You can design multiple
solutions for a project. The following describes the process of creating a project
and designing a solution.

After logging in to the SmartDesign, click Create Project. Enter project


information as prompted to create a project and generate a report.

3.2 Entering Basic Information


The basic information includes the location, type, power consumption, and load
type of the PV plant.
1. Log in to the SmartDesign and click Create Project.

2. Select the location for installing the PV plant system based on the site
requirements, and enter basic information such as the project name and
address (for details, see Basic Information).
3. Click Next to save the settings.

Basic Information

Table 3-1 Basic information


Parameter Description

Project Name Mandatory. Enter a project name.

Client Name Optional. Enter a customer name.

Address Mandatory. Specify the location of the plant to be


designed. The system automatically generates a
rectangle for 3D modeling of the building. You can
adjust the location based on the site requirements.

Weather Station Mandatory. After you set Address, the system


automatically selects the corresponding weather
station. Confirm the weather station or select another
one based on the site requirements.

Project Type Mandatory. Select a project type.

Energy Consumption Optional. Enter the estimated power consumption.

Load Type Optional. Enter a load type as required.

Grid Parameters Mandatory. Select power grid parameters based on the


local situation.

Feed-in Power Upper Optional. Fill in the grid-tied power limit based on the
Limit local situation.

Power Factor Mandatory. Enter the power factor. The default value is
1.

3.3 Performing 3D Modeling


After you specify the location, the system automatically generates a rectangle. In
this area, you can draw buildings and obstacles to facilitate PV module
arrangement and electrical design.

Drawing a
building Click and draw the building outline in the area based
on the site requirements.

Drawing obstacles
Click to draw a polygonal or rectangular obstacle on
the rooftop of a building.

Drawing a ridge ● Click Ridge Line and hover over the rooftop for which
you want to draw a ridge. The selected rooftop turns
blue. Double-click to draw a ridge.
● Click and hold to drag the vertex of the ridge to adjust
the ridge based on the site requirements.

Adjusting the
height of a ● On the 2D view page, click to switch to the 3D view,

Drawing a Building
By default, the map is displayed in a top view. You need to draw the rooftop
outline and obstacles, and switch to the 3D view to change the height of the
building or outline.

1. Double-click a map area, click , and draw the rooftop outline based on
the site requirements. Alternatively, you can quickly draw the ridge based on
the ridge type (for details, see Drawing a Ridge).
NOTE

If there are objects such as windows, skylights, and trees that affect PV module
installation and PV power generation efficiency on the rooftop, draw obstacles based
on the site requirements. For details, see Drawing Obstacles.

2. Click to switch to the 3D view. Select the outline to be adjusted and set
information such as the building height.

3. After the drawing is complete, click to switch to the 2D view, and click
Next to save the settings.

Drawing Obstacles
There may be objects such as windows, skylights, and trees that affect PV module
installation and PV power generation efficiency on or around the rooftop of a
building. You can draw obstacles based on the site requirements.

1. Double-click the rooftop, click , and place all obstacles in the required
locations properly.

2. Click to switch to the 3D view. Select the obstacles to be adjusted and


set information such as the obstacle height.

3. After the drawing is complete, click to switch to the 2D view, and click
Next to save the settings.

Drawing a Ridge
After drawing the top view of a building, you can select the ridge type to quickly
draw the ridge.
1. Double-click the rooftop for which you want to draw a ridge and click Ridge
Line. The system automatically places the ridge. Adjust the ridge based on the
site requirements.
2. Click 3D to switch to the 3D view. Select the ridge whose height needs to be
adjusted and set the ridge height.
3. After the drawing is complete, click 2D to switch to the 2D view, and click
Next to save the settings.

3.4 Arranging PV Modules


After building 3D modeling is complete, you can place PV modules on the rooftop
as required and specify the PV module model and direction. The system supports
automatic and manual arrangement of PV modules.

Automatically Arranging PV Modules


1. Double-click the rooftop where PV modules are to be placed and click Auto.
The system automatically places PV modules on the rooftop.
2. Click the PV module area, set the PV module model, color, azimuth, and tilt
angle, and click Save.
3. (Optional) To delete a PV module, select it and click Delete.
4. Click Next to save the current solution.

Manually Arranging PV Modules


1. Click the rooftop where PV modules are to be placed, click Add, and draw an
area for placing PV modules on the rooftop. The system automatically places
PV modules in the selected area.
2. Click the PV module area, set the PV module model, color, azimuth, and tilt
angle, and click Save.
3. Click Next to save the current solution.

3.5 Completing the Electrical Design


After PV modules are arranged, the system automatically generates inverters,
optimizers, and corresponding connections based on the number of PV modules
and the target capacity ratio to quickly complete electrical design.

Automatic Design
1. Select the PV module area and click Auto. The system automatically adds
inverters, optimizers, and corresponding connections based on the location
and number of PV modules.
2. Adjust the values of Target Oversizing, Inverter Model, and Optimizer
Model as required, and click Save.
3. Click Next to save the current solution.

Manual Design
1. Select the PV module area and click Manual. The system automatically adds
inverters based on the number of PV modules.

2. Click to select an inverter, hold and click the PV modules to be


connected in the same string, and then release. The PV modules are
automatically connected as a string. Design the strings to be connected to the
inverter in sequence.
3. Repeat 2 to design string connections for other inverters.
4. Click Next to save the current solution.

3.6 Conducting Economic Analysis


After the design of inverters and PV modules is determined, you can perform
economic analysis on the PV system by setting parameters such as Economic
Parameters, Devices, Installation Fee, and Government Subsidy.

Setting Economic Parameters


1. Select a currency unit based on the site requirements.
2. Set economic parameters such as the annual O&M cost.

Setting a Device Cost

In the device list, click . In the dialog box that is displayed, enter the unit
price and click OK.
To add other devices, click Add Device. In the dialog box that is displayed, set
Device Name, Model, Quantity, and Price, and click OK.

Setting an Installation Fee


1. Set Fee Type based on the site requirements.
2. Enter the installation fee based on the value of Fee Type.

Setting Government Subsidies


If local government subsidies are available, set government subsidies for better
economic analysis.

1. Click Add Government Subsidy.


2. Select a subsidy type and enter the subsidy amount based on the site
requirements.
3. Click Next to generate a report.

3.7 Generating a Report


After a report is generated, the system provides information such as energy yield
and revenue based on the design solution. You can customize report components
or export the report.

Report Details
A report contains multiple parts, such as the plant overview, key devices, and
economic benefit parameters. You can click Custom to select the parts to be
displayed in the report.
Plant overview: displays key devices, economic benefit parameters, and
environmental protection information in the design solution.

Economic benefits: displays the expected economic benefits of the design solution.

Energy yield & power consumption: displays the average monthly energy yield and
self-consumption rate of the design solution.

Device list: displays the type, model, and number of devices used in the solution.

Electrical design: displays the detailed electrical relationships and relationships


between devices (such as inverter string information) in the solution.

Simulation parameters: displays the time zone, power grid, and meteorological
information of the solution.

Exporting a Report
On the Report page, click Export Report and export the report as prompted.

4 Project Management

4.1 Managing a Solution

Adding a solution: In the project list, click .

Deleting a solution: In the project list, click to display all solutions of a project

and click to delete a solution.

Modifying solution information: In the project list, click to modify solution


details.

4.2 Solution Comparison


Compare and Analyze
You can compare and analyze different solutions of the same project to display
the optimal design solution for the owner.

1. Select the solutions to be compared and click in the Operation column.

2. On the Compare and Analyze page, you can view the comparison in terms of
basic information, energy yield, devices, and economy.

NOTE

The solutions can be compared and analyzed only after a report is generated.

Export Report
On the Compare and Analyze page, click Export Report in the upper right corner
and export the report as prompted.
