HP Indigo Customer Letter

HP Indigo ElectroInk Primer for HP Indigo 12000 presses

November 2016

Dear Customer,

As one of the features of the HP Indigo 12000 press, we offer you the possibility to use the new HP
Indigo ElectroInk Primer.

This new ink is designed to enhance the ability to print on standard and specialty uncertified papers,
without the need to pre-treat them. The functionality of the HP Indigo ElectroInk Primer is improving
adhesion of ink to paper, thus enabling the use of most paper types of your choosing within press
specifications. This on-press priming solution allows you to choose more flexibly the paper, according
to customer demand or availability, and significantly shorten delivery times as well as avoiding extra
costs and time associated with ordering digital papers or outsourcing papers for offline priming.

Since your choice of paper is so vast, we may not have tested your particular paper for use with the HP
Indigo ElectroInk primer. Therefore we encourage you to first test the paper with our ink primer prior
to commercial use. Please follow the below guidelines as you perform your evaluation.

• Ink Adhesion. You may have various methods for determining how well the ink adheres to
paper. We suggest that you verify that the Primer ink provides an adhesion level suitable to
your application – using your chosen method of evaluation, with your chosen paper and
evaluating any relevant post-printing processes.

• Blanket lifespan. Guidelines and contractual commitments for blanket lifespan are
maintained, and should be a consideration in the use of any paper.

• Runnability. HP Indigo ElectroInk primer is not intended to provide an improvement in paper

transport. Some papers may not provide adequate runnability. Please use only papers that meet
the specification of the press regarding weight, grain direction and thickness.

Note, the ElectroInk Primer is not designed to change the ability to print on synthetic or metallized
substrates (or substrates in which the surface layer is synthetic), and those will still require pre-
treatment.

The HP Indigo ElectroInk Primer is a colorless ink which is added as the first separation on the paper
(between the paper and color layers). It is used as a spot ink, in a regular ink station. The ink is
transparent and has almost no bearing on the visibility or colors of the printed job.

The Primer separation is planned to be added automatically by the software according to the paper
parameters chosen. The added separation is selective- 100% under any image area and 15% under
background areas. This will be automatically calculated.
This is a special ink, and will be chargeable by the tube, in addition to the usual click charge per hit.
As an Early Product Launch customer, you will be able to order the ink through the web order tool,
and a first box is offered free of charge. The P/Ns for order are:

on a regular 10000 without related upgrades. Prerequisite is SW version- 10050.0.0 i20 + ifix1 i10

We look forward to working closely with you during the early release period.
