Given several exercises, the Grade 9 students are expected to do the following
with 80% proficiency:
a. analyze the different major components that generates geothermal energy,
b. discuss how geothermal energy is generated; and
c. reflect on the importance of renewable energies and its effect on climate
change.

a. Activity
i. Brief Recapitulation
- The teacher will conduct a short question-answer drill to the students
regarding volcanoes. With this, students can relate their prior knowledge to
the new lesson. The questions to be asked are the following:
1. What famous natural landmark in the Philippines known to its majestic
beauty because of its perfect cone-shaped?
2. What are the different parts of a volcano?
3. What is the difference between crater and vent?
4. What is the difference between magma and lava?
ii. Introductory Activity
- Since the students already has prior knowledge about magma, the teacher
will ask inquiry-based questions to the students. The following questions
are:
1. Can magma produce electricity?
2. How magma produces electricity?
3. How magma forms?
b. Analysis
- The students will examine various illustrations provided by the teacher.
With the aid of the illustrations, the teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What is magma?
2. How magma forms?
3. What are the factors involving in the formation of magma?
4. What are the types of magma?
c. Abstraction
- The teacher will give an inquiry-based situation to the students. Afterwards,
the teacher will ask several questions.
- Inquiry-based Situation:
“Imagine you are boiling water. Then, you increase the temperature
which leads also in increase in boiling. You place your hand on top of the
boiling water, but not too close to avoid burn.”
- Questions:
1. What did you observe on your hand?
2. Why is it wet?
3. What triggers the process which leads to boiling of water?
4. What is the name of the form of water when it is on the process of
evaporation?
- With the previous activity, the teacher will ask supporting questions:
1. What if we replace the boiling water scenario with magma-water
scenario?
2. What will happen if water is in contact with magma?
- Afterwards, the teacher will use different illustrations presenting the flow or
how geothermal energy is generated and the different types of power plants.
d. Application
- Since climate change is becoming the main focus of the international
organizations, the teacher will give a short essay test to the students on their
reflection of using renewable energy and its effect on climate change.
