Communication :
● Communication is defined as sharing
of one’s thoughts , ideas, information
and knowledge with other .
● It is a process to give and receive
information from others .
Components of communication process

4. Encoding
c. Technology based
5. Decoding
6. Feedback
1. Sender : one who creates and sends message
2. Receiver : one who receives message
3. Message : content(idea or thoughts) to be shared
4. Encoding : way of sharing message where a message should
be clear, correct and complete .
5. Decoding : interpretation/ meaning of the message
6. Feedback : response to the received message
7. Communication channel : medium of communication

c. Technology based
Effective communication :

● Effective communication means where we know


what we are trying to communicate and the
audience is getting exactly what we are trying to
say.
● Basic purpose of this is to interact ,to express the
ideas and to achieve desired result for ensuring
progress and growth .
Factors of effective communication :

1. Mutually accepted communication code


2. Well encoded message
3. Careful decoding of the message
4. Receiver’s response to the communicated
message
Communication barriers :

1. Environment of communication
2. Situational barriers
3. Barriers to effective listening
4. Barriers related to the personality traits of the
communication

Methods of
Communication
Methods of communication :

On the basis of the requirement of the situation ,


we prefer different methods of communication .
1. Verbal communication
2. Non-verbal communication
3. Audio visual communication
Verbal communication :

● Verbal communication is the use of words


and grammar of the language to share the
information with others .
● It includes both spoken and written
communication .
Oral communication :
● Face-to-face communication where words are
spoken .
● Easiest and effective way of communication
● Factors are :
○ Proficiency of language
○ Accent, pace and clarity
○ Volume , mood and emotions
○ Duration of communication
Written communication :
● It includes words in written form and is formal in
nature .
● It must be clear, to-the-point and correct to
convey the right meaning .
Non-Verbal communication :

● Non-verbal communication includes our body


language .
● It occurs mostly during oral communication .
Non verbal communication includes :
1. Facial expression
2. Voice and silence
3. Tone
4. Gestures (movement of body parts like hand , leg , etc)
5. Postures (the way that a person sits, stands, walks, etc)
6. Eye contact
7. Physical contact
8. Appearance
● Also known as
technology-based
communication
● Communication that
involves vision and
auditory capability is
called audio-visual
communication.

Communication perspective :
● Perspective is defined as opinion or attitude towards
something .
● In communication, how we encode a message and
how the message is decoded is defined by
perspective .
● Perspective is useful in understanding the people as
well as situation .
Factors of communication perspective :
1. Visual perspective
2. Perspective of language
3. Past experiences
4. Attitude
5. Prejudice
6. Values and beliefs
7. Feeling and emotions
8. Surrounding and environment
