Objectives: by the end of the class the students will be able to:
to use properly the prepositions of place
to use correctly newly acquired vocabulary
to recognize the most basic prepositions of place: in, on, behind, in front of,
between, next to, opposite
Lead-in Ss are asked to open their text books at page T-S Reading 3’
68 and look at the picture in exercise 1. They S-T Writing
check if they guessed any of the words Speaking
describing buildings.
Activity 1 In pairs, Ss are asked to read and complete the T-S Speaking 7’
sentences with words related to types of S-T Writing
buildings as they are indicated in the picture. S-S
Activity 2 Ss are asked to read the sentences again and T-S Listening 5’
find words indicating the place (prepositions). S-T Reading
T, for each preposition, shows a flash card and Speaking
sticks it on the BB. T asks the Ss to find the
preposition which is not indicated on the flash
cards – opposite.
Activity 3 Listen and stick - Ss are asked to use the T-S Listening 10’
flashcards in order to make up a picture on the S-T Speaking
BB observing the Ts indications: S-S
The table is in the room.
The ball is under the table.
The lamp is on the table.
The mouse is behind the lamp.
The cat is next to the ball.
The dog is in front of the table.
The dog is between two chairs.
The TV is opposite the table.
Activity 4 Ss are given some handouts. They are asked to T-S Listening 10’
read the sentences without trying to fill in the S-T Writing
missing words. S-S Speaking
Then, they are asked to watch a cartoon – The
Mouse Comes to Dinner (1945) – Tom and
Jerry series. They have to pay attention to the
places some of the objects from the sentences
are in.
In pairs, after watching they try to remember
and have the fill in the gaps with the missing
prepositions: in, on, under, behind, in front of,
between, next to, opposite.
To check their answers the T will show on the
video projector stills from the video. Ss correct
their sentences.

Evaluation Students will be graded and evaluated on the T-S Speaking 3’
basis of their oral performance.
Homework T assigns the homework – ex. 3 page 65. T-S Speaking 2’
