Listening and speaking in English are intricate skills that play a pivotal role in the
teaching-learning process, forming the backbone of effective communication. As I reflect on their
significance, I am compelled to explore how these skills can be harnessed to create a dynamic
and engaging educational environment.

Active listening as discussed by Sir Marklin Muilin, in particular, emerges as a

cornerstone in the teaching-learning dynamic. Instructors must not only convey information but
also foster an environment where students feel heard and valued. This involves not just hearing
words but understanding the nuances, questions, and concerns that may be embedded in
students' responses. By honing active listening skills, educators can establish a connection with
their students, creating a conducive atmosphere for learning.

Conversely, the art of speaking in English by Dr. Sirhajwan is equally crucial for
educators. Effective verbal communication involves clarity, expression, and adaptability to
different levels of language proficiency among students. Articulating ideas in a comprehensible
manner and using appropriate language tailored to the audience ensures that the educational
content is accessible and engaging. Encouraging students to express themselves verbally fosters
language development and confidence in using English.

In the teaching-learning process, incorporating diverse speaking and listening activities

can enhance language acquisition. Group discussions, debates, presentations, and interactive
sessions provide students with opportunities to practice and refine these skills. Additionally,
integrating multimedia resources, such as podcasts and videos, aids in exposing students to
various accents and speaking styles, contributing to a well-rounded language experience.

As a reflective practitioner, I recognize the need for a balanced and inclusive approach to
teaching listening and speaking skills. This involves creating a supportive and participative
classroom environment, incorporating interactive teaching methods, and providing constructive
feedback to students. By leveraging the symbiotic relationship between listening and speaking,
educators can nurture effective communicators who are not only proficient in English but also
confident in expressing their thoughts and ideas.

The reflective journey on listening and speaking in English unveils their vital role in the
teaching-learning process. By understanding and harnessing these skills, we can create an
