Technological Revolution
Technological Revolution
Science and technology accompanied us and guided our society at each stage of its evolution.
We could say that it is one of the corner stones of our development as human beings. And as new
horizons unbeknownst to us appears that needs to be understood, it will become a tool that will re-
shape our society that will improve our lifestyle.
One of the leading force for the technological advancement of humanity has been the Internet.
Combined with the advances in computer technology, these led quickly to a global information
revolution. Reducing dramatically the time and costs required for information distribution, it also
made the possibility of manipulating a vast quantities of information, thus giving birth to Information
Age. Having the instantaneous information exchanges and communication, it led to disruption in
traditional relationships between individuals; between the individual and the society. Communication
became easy, with just one tap you can chat or video call and talk to a person from other time zones.
Mobile Technology decreases efforts for communication and relationship-gap between people, and
gave us a very game changing Globalization.
It also made a lot more potential ways on improving education. Learning became more
interactive and collaborative, it helps people to engage better with the materials that they are
learning. And since you’ve got an access to a very extensive information and knowledge on a
computer, it also expands the boundary of the four-walled classroom which encourages self-paced
learning.
Having broad choices, society can now choose on how to live their life with technology and
science. This provides a route to new creative activities, engaging culture, art, and technology. Making
it a more diverse and more colorful way of societal benefits. Entrepreneurs also used scientific and
technological advancements for development and inventions. These interaction between
entrepreneurs, inventors and scientists resulted in technological and scientific progress. This
Entrepreneurial Utilization of technology grew in size wherein it directly impacted the scale of
economic activities which is continuously expanding.
These progress had broadened the range of people’s activities, and made life more prosperous.
Society’s demand on technology are never-ending rising which made it’s relationship become
inseparable and becoming more diverse than ever. Science is thoroughly a social process, and
perspectives that tend to expose some of the effects of social structure are thus valuable throughout
sciences. Without technological breakthrough, our way of life would not be as complex. Science and
technology are inducing great changes in the very nature of the society, so that an individual have no
longer choice but to be swept along by the effects of science and technology advancements. We can
say that nature and culture are produced by networks of contingent histories. And it shows that
technology and science have been with us for a very long time since technological influences shape
the way humans act today.
And even though science and technology have many great benefits for us, in some occurrence
the impact has been harmful and some of it’s long-term effects causes a very serious concerns. As our
grasp in science and technology widens, new societal issues arises from its continuous progress have
become more apparent. The need for new technology increases the current consumption of natural
resources and increases the stress on local governments and local environment. And since
communication pave the way for Social Media, it also produce our loss of privacy. Society became
more dense in urban areas wherein technology prospers, separating the people in rural areas when it
comes to information, and it derives into Digital Divide (information gap) between generations and
regions.
We should keep in mind the impacts of technological advancements, and interventions on
individuals, communities, and the environment must also be carefully considered. It could be gained
by being more multidisciplinary and integration between natural and social sciences. We should also
think that science should look at the contributions of humanities (such as history and philosophy),
local knowledge, and a very wide variety of cultural values and apply it for a more balanced effects on
society. And the path that science and technology needs to take should be “Science and Technology
for society, AND FOR ENVIRONMENT”
