IS GLOBALIZATION DEAD?

“Amidst the recent socio-political and socio-economic events entangled with illiberal and
irrational ideologies of few, globalization is declining. However, in few domains, globalization
is still intact; with responsible role and revisiting the scope and its drivers, it can be saved and
pursued in responsible way to meet the challenges of twenty-first century.”

c. Emergence of economic protectionist tendencies instead of cooperation
i. Case study: the us in NAFTA and un agencies
d. Rise in like-minded groupings while ignoring the global economic cooperation i.e. G3,
BRICS , B3W and BRI
e. Closure of borders with ban on a few nationalities undermining the idea of free
movement
f. The proliferation of arms violating the idea of peaceful global village
g. The rise of authoritarians and ultra-nationalist with the idea of ‘us’ showing perils on the
global idea of ‘we’
h. The violation of International law while pursuing draconian domestic laws
i. Case study: India with Article 35 and 370-A
i. Non-cooperation while dealing with global challenges such as climate change,
pandemics and food security
j. Manifestation of ‘De-globalization narrative in different parts of the world
4) Globalization Is Still Intact-a counter narrative
a. Democratic ideals such as freedom and human rights are spreading.
b. Services, ideas and data information are still on the tone of globalization.
c. Growth of developing world in terms of economy-a success story of globalization in
recent times
