 Most of the words have their plural make according to the general rule: ADD only –
S in the end:

 Cat – Cats
 Book – Books
 Car – Cars
 House – Houses
 Magazine – Magazines
 Bottle – bottles
 But, if the word ends with –s, –ss, –sh, –x, –z, we need to ADD – ES. If the word ends
with –o and –ch, we also add –Es in the end.

 Bus – Buses
 Class – Classes
 Brush – Brushes
 Church – churches
 Tomato – Tomatoes
 Potato – potatoes

 She brushes her teeth in the morning


 She uses a brush in her hair in the morning
 If it ends with –Y and has a vowel, we just ADD –S

 Boy – Boys
 Toy – Toys
 Day – Days
 Guy– guys
 Play – Plays

 Shakespeare wrote the play Otelo


 He wrote the plays Otelo and Hamlet
 She plays the part of Juliet.
 If it ends with –Y and has a consonant, we cut the –Y and add -IES

 Family – families
 Country – countries
 Baby – babies
 Body – bodies
 Lady – ladies
 City – cities
 Fly – flies
 If the word ends with –F or –FE, we change the structure a little: Take off the end (f
or fe) and ADD –VES

 Knife – Knives
 Leaf – Leaves

 Shelf – Shelves
 There are some words that have their own plural form (you don ́t need to add anything,
but the word changes the form)

 Tooth – Teeth
 Mouse – Mice
