For this assignment, a manuscript was given to be typed in double line spacing,

using the Indented Style. There were corrections symbols/marks which were

interpreted. Abbreviations were also spelt out.

Electronic mail

Ray Tomlinson is the inventor of the email. In 1971, he developed the system that was able

to send mail between users on different hosts across the ARPANET (Advance Research Projects

Agency Network), a network that was predecessor to the Internet.

Today`s email systems are based on a store and forward model. Dedicated email servers

accepts, forward, delivers, and store messages. Persons can connect to the mail server or

webmail interface to end or receive messages.1

SOME ADVANTAGES OF EMAILS

Low cost

There is no direct cost associated with sending an email. The cost will be for Electricity and

Internet access. Hundreds of email can be sent worldwide for the cost of 1 item of local pasted

mail.

Speed of Delivery

Email is received almost immediately after it is sent, usually within minutes. If the delivery

failed, the sender will be notified.

Sending to multiple Recipients simultaneously. A single email may be sent to multiple

recipient’s , where as an item of postal mail would have to be sent as a separate item to each

recipient.

Ability to send multiple types of attachments

Various file types may be attached to email messages. This allows attachments continuation

text-based documents, graphics,, sound and video to be included. Compression features built

into the email software allow large files to be sent in a short time
