Unit 7 - Period 85- Lesson 1- Vocabulary ( 1 )
1. Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognise some
places in town with a positive attitude.
New vocabulary: pool, park, mall, stadium, school, zoo
2. Previous knowledge:
- Vocabulary : snake, iguana, spider, hamster, mouse, frog
- Grammar: I have a/an … , I don’t have a/an …
3. Competence
Communication/ collaboration: Work together and communicate effectively.
Core competencies & Personal qualities
- Building up interests and good habits in learning English.
- Building up non-verbal communication skills through feeling expression.
- Being communicative, collaborative and supportive in pair work and
teamwork.
4. Materials required for the lesson: Pupil’s book, Workbook, power point,
TV/projector, CD, song, flashcards.

- With each slide, show the picture first, then ask Ss instructions
"Where is it?” , call some Ss to stand up to answer and
wait for Ss’ answer (Vietnamese answers are -Follow

- After that, show the answers on the slides, play the instructions
audio for the whole class to listen and repeat (repeat
chorally, in group, and individually).
- Then, show the flashcards of the words , ask Ss to
listen and repeat the words again, then stick the
flashcards on the board one by one and write down the
words.
-Have Ss read out loud all the words in slide 12.

Practice

7 minutes Activity 1: Listen and repeat -Follow


(Pupil’s book, - Have Ss open the Pupil’s book and look at all the teacher’s
powerpoint) pictures in activity 1. instructions.
- Play the CD and have Ss listen and point to the
pictures.
- Play the CD again and ask Ss to repeat chorally.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, one points to the pictures and
the other reads.

Optional Game 1 : Seashore shuffle -Follow

- The coconuts will shuffle.
- Guess where the pearl is by choosing the correct
answer.
- Find the pearl and you win points!
- The team with the most points at the end of the game
wins!
5 minutes Game 2: Freezing -Follow
- Ask Ss to move their hands in the air, but in total teacher’s
silence. instructions.
- Call out words from previous units and randomly
include the place words.
- When Ss hear the place word, they should freeze and
repeat the word.
- Do this fast to make it fun!

6 minutes Game 3: Matching game

- Invite 6 Ss to go to the board, provide each Ss with a teacher’s

- Ask them to stick the flashcard on the right place
(under the right word). When they finish, check and

the words again.
- The school which has Active Board (IWB) can use the
powerpoint slide for the matching activity.
Closing
4 minutes - Review vocabulary again by using slide 33 or showing -Follow
(flashcards, the flashcards one by one for Ss to look, listen and repeat teacher’s

- Then take an empty chair - one for each team - and
put it at the front of the class, facing the team
members. These chairs are the 'hot seats'.
- Get one member from each team to come up and sit
in that chair, so they are facing their team-mates and
have their back to the board.
- Write a word from the previous lesson on the
board.
- The students in the teams have to describe that
word, using synonyms, antonyms, definitions etc. to
their team mate who is in the hot seat - that person
can't see the word!
- The student in the hot seat listens to their team

point for their team.
- Then change the students over, with a new member

6 minutes Review vocabulary - Follow T’s

have them say aloud chorally/ in group or
individually.
- Divide the class into 2 teams and draw their attention
to the quiz of place.
- Explain how to play the quiz: students will look at a
picture and choose the correct answer by saying A, B
or C in each question.
- Students can get 1 point from teacher if they have
correct answers.
- The team which has more points will win.

Practice
7 minutes Activity 2: Listen and guess - Follow T’s
(Powerpoint, - Make an animal noise and ask Ss to guess the place instructions

- Then make a cheering noise and ask them to guess
again (stadium).
- Then play the CD with pauses and have Ss guess the
place. The Ss respond chorally.

7 minutes Activity 3: Ask and say - Follow T’s

or noises this time!).
- Ask individual Ss to perform their mime at the front
of the class while others guess
the place. In a large class, do the mimes in small
groups.

Optional Game 2: Unscramble words - Follow T’s


(powerpoint) - Ask Ss to look at the letters on slides. instructions
- Have them reorder these letters to make meaningful
words.
- The student raising their hand first will have chance
to give the answer . If they answer correctly, they
will have a point.
- Check the answer as the whole class.

- Ask Ss to complete the words then connect the
words and pictures.
- Have Ss compare their answers in pairs.

Students know: greeting, introducing, telling about familiar topics

Act: Apply the sentence pattern to talk about places in the town.
