Tutorial Sheet 6
1. Calculate the horizontal and vertical deflection of point C of the truss structure shown in
𝐿 1 𝑚𝑚
Fig. 1. The members AD and CD are 45o inclined to the horizontal axis. Take =
𝐴𝐸 100 𝑁
for each member.
2. Calculate the horizontal and vertical deflection of point C of the truss structure shown in
Fig. 2 (with roller support at A). The members AD and CD are 45o inclined to the
𝐿 1 𝑚𝑚
horizontal axis. Take = for each member.

3. Find both horizontal and vertical deflection of joint G of the statically determinate truss
shown in Fig. 3. Take the cross-section areas of all members=4 mm2 and Young’s modulus
(E) for all member 200 GPa.
4. Find the vertical deflection of joint B of the truss shown in Fig. 4. Take the cross-section
areas of all members=2 mm2 and Young’s modulus (E) for all member 70 GPa.

6. Find the member forces in each member of the statically indeterminate truss structure
shown in Fig. 6. Also, find the horizontal deflection at C. The members AD, CD, BC and
AB are 100 cm long. The members AC and BD are 45o inclined to the horizontal axis.
Take the cross-section areas of all members=2 mm2 and Young’s modulus (E) for all
member 210 GPa.
