Problem

Consider a pipe network comprised of nine (J = 9) junctions, thirteen (N = 13) branches and
four (M = 4) loops. The data provided include: the external inflows (Qin) and outflows (Qout) at
all network junctions, and the resistance coefficients (Ri) and pipe diameters (Di) for all
branches. For this given network, write a computer code for the determination of the discharge
through each branch pipe following Hardy-Cross method. Set the convergence criterion for the
maximum correction value of ΔQl as 0.001. Submit a detailed report including the following:
1. Literature review citing 5 research papers on the broad topic of pipe network analysis
properly elucidating the objective of the study and significant conclusions.
2. The code (in any suitable programming language) for the given problem. The code
must be written with proper comments describing the different components.
3. Flowchart of the algorithm implemented in the code for the determination of the
missing discharges.
4. A table listing the missing discharges for each branch pipe as obtained from the code.

The values of Qinvar (in m3/s) to be used in the above problem for different students is given in
the following table. Based on the continuity of the entire network, without any source/sink,
(Total inflow into the network = Total Outflow from the network) obtain the value of Qoutvar
accordingly and solve the problem.
