ON-SITE
On-site is a course offering scheduled for specific days/times and assigned a classroom by the
Registrar’s Office at the University of Regina main campus, the Federated Colleges (Campion and
Luther) and First Nations University of Canada (Regina Campus). These courses may also utilize the
University’s learning management system called UR Courses for hosting various teaching and learning
enhanced activities and materials such as course readings, lecture notes, slides, and discussion
boards. The UR Courses-based activities do not replace but supplement in-class teaching and learning.

main campus. A class section that is being delivered at an off-campus location will have the delivery

A course offering that has a combination of different components and instructional methods
(may include both on-campus and off-campus and/or synchronous and asynchronous). Most often,
they are scheduled with synchronous face-to-face meeting times with enhanced learning activities in
the online environment. Typically, a blended course involves the substitution of between 30-70% of in-
class teaching with online teaching. A blended course may also be based on a combination of
synchronous virtual class meetings with asynchronous online teaching consecutively; usually, this type
of blended courses includes 30-70% asynchronous online teaching.

A hybrid class facilitates the attendance of a group of students face to face in a classroom and a
group of students remotely via video conferencing software concurrently and in real time. Two
sections are created to manage enrolment: an on-site face-to-face section, and a remote section.
For courses that are scheduled as HYBON/HYBRM, students register in their preferred mode of
delivery. They must attend class through their registered section only. They are not allowed to switch
between the sections at will.
Hybrid courses have synchronous meeting days and times. The remote section of the course uses
Zoom for connecting off-site students to the on-site instructor and students in real time.

Hyflex classes provide students with the opportunity to attend class sessions on-site or remotely. A
student could potentially attend the entire class on-site or remotely; they may attend class remotely
one day and on-site another day if they wish. The course instructor teaches in a classroom on-site
during the entire term.
Hyflex course sections have synchronous meeting days and times.
Hyflex courses use Zoom for the remote delivery.

ONLINE (ONLNE)
Online courses are formally developed to be delivered in a primarily asynchronous format. They are
typically delivered such that students are able to manage them on their own schedule rather than
attend class on a specific date/time. However, they may have a limited number of real-time virtual
meetings. Limited synchronous elements in an asynchronous course might, for example, include: a
class session on clarifying major course concepts or reviewing some more difficult topics; a class
meeting to go over course assignment requirements; mandatory quiz and/or required mid-term check-
ins with students.
At the University of Regina, online courses are taught through Moodle-based UR Courses, the
University’s institutional Learning Management System. UR Courses have a variety of embedded
functions. These functions include posting lecture notes, course reading materials, videos, and
images; delivering assignments, quizzes and exams; and creating and using discussion boards.
Some courses have required meeting days and times for quizzes and exams. If an online course has
some real-time class meetings, these meetings are held via Zoom, the University’s approved video-
conferencing software.
