WHAT IS LIGHT?
An explanation of light and how we can see objects.

LIGHTING EXPLAINED
SPECTRUM OF LIGHT
Microwaves, FM/AM
radio waves, etc. UV, X-rays, etc.

As we do with pigment colors, we tend to organize light

color into:

• 03 primaries (RED, GREEN, BLUE)

• 03 secondaries (YELLOW, CYAN, MAGENTA)

RED GREEN

BLUE
LIGHTING EXPLAINED

The light as we see is a full spectrum of all visible colors.

When white light hits an object, the object will absorb all of the wavelengths that
match its own atomic structure and reflect the rest back to our eyes.

STEP 1
Choosing the right tone

WARM Relaxing, warm and cozy feeling

MORE CHOICES:
◆ Turnable White option: change color temperature in a certain range
(2700K – 6000K).
NEUTRAL More focused, bring out the colors
◆ RGB option: change color within the RGB wheel system.

◆ RGBW option : a combination of RGB and turnable white.

Highly concentrated, encourage

STEP 2
Calculate total lumens needed for your space

TOTAL LUMENS NEEDED* (Lm)

= S x Lux x K Based on the calculation, you can determine the amount
of lights needed for your space
in which S: Room area (m2)
Lux: Standard light levels
K: Back up coefficient (1.5 for Unios)
Specific Area Standard Lux**

Supermarket 750
Example
Showroom / Retails shop 500
Dining room size: 5000mm x 4000mm = 20 (m2)
Standard Light Level: 200 Lux
Luminaire: TITANIUM G2 11W → 1005 Lm Workstation / Classroom 500

Total Lumens needed* = 20 x 200 x 1.5 = 6000 (Lm) Parking Entrance 500

Kitchen 500

NEUTRAL Living Room / Bedroom 300

Toilets / Bathroom 200

A rough guide for the standard Lux
for each space based on their purposes Dining Room 150 – 200

specifications. Applied for the average ceiling height 2.6 m ~ 3m.
Version 1.0 – 08/09/2020

STEP 3
Break down your total lumens

◆ Consider your space’s purposes and functions, then

determine your lighting layers. A balance use of 3 lighting layers in 3000K makes
the space cozy and cheery.

◆ Break down the total lumens and allocate the right amount
to each lighting layers.
For example: In a museum, more lumens should be allocated to the accent
lighting layer, since they are needed for highlighting and drawing visitors’ gaze
to the artwork.

Hint: If the ambient light level is significantly less than the accent and task,
space will appear more dramatic. In contrast, if the ambient light level is nearly
as high, the room will be cheerier.

NEUTRAL

The space appears more dramatic

with mostly accent and task lighting.
