News
Murderer convicted
Forty-year-old Jason Dugan has been convicted of murdering his mother-in-law by poisoning her
breakfast cereal. Dugan apparently had an argument with the 62-year-old a few weeks ago. Police
believe the late Iris Thomas accused her son-in-law of having an affair. Thomas's daughter, Janice,
told reporters that she was devastated by the whole situation.
Teenager found guilty
A 16-year-old teenager has been found guilty of burglary and assault. The boy, who cannot be
named for legal reasons, was arrested last October for stealing jewelry from a house in Santa
Barbara and for assaulting the owner of the house. Police officer Mickey Simms told the court that
the 16-year-old had a history of minor criminal violations.
Arrested for illegal home
A man has been arrested for living in a subway station in Lisbon. The man is thought to be
unemployed and homeless. A local store owner said that the man was harmless and generally clean
in appearance. She also said that the local community was happy with the man living there. The
man will appear in court this Friday.
Car thieves arrested
Twenty-three people have been arrested for the theft of hundreds of luxury cars in the New Jersey
area over the past year. They are reported to be part of a gang that specializes in reselling stolen
cars in Europe. The men are also being questioned about various drug trafficking offenses. It is
thought that the son of one of the gang members gave the police important information that led to
the arrests.
Senior citizen prosecuted for driving offense
A man has been found guilty of driving through a red light downtown, just off East 35th Street, and
hitting two pedestrians who were crossing the road. 83-year-old Billy Jackson claimed that he
didn't notice the red light. Jackson said he was in a rush because he was late for an optician's
appointment. He has expressed deep regret for the injuries he caused and has decided that he will
never drive again. Both pedestrians are fine.
