MiBeerAge for iOS: Decode the Bottling Date to Find Freshest Beer

CRIRS REI, LLC today announces MiBeerAge 1.8 for iOS, an update to their app that calculates the age in days, of any bottle or can of beer. In most cases, beer should be consumed within the first 120 days of bottling. In other cases, the app allows the user to select an age where their particular beer tastes best, e.g. a three year old (1095 days) Gueuze. The app allows the user to select the brand of beer, enter the alphanumeric code printed on it, and then decode the exact number of days since the beer was canned or bottled. More than 60 different brands are included with regular, free updates. It also has a built-in link to the MiBeerAge website so users may contribute their particular brand of beer to the app's growing library.

Using the MiBeerAge app is simple, and the GUI is intuitive and easy to operate. On launch, the top half of the screen is taken up by the cylindrical iPhone odometer display listing more than 60 different brands: Amstel, Anchor Steam, Asahi, Bass Ale UK, Bass Ale USA, Becks, Beck's Dark, Blue Moon, Bohemia, Brooklyn, Bud Light, Budweiser, Carling Canada, Carling UK, Coors, Coors Light, Corona, Corona Extra, Corona Light, Dogfish Head, Dos Equis, Foster's, Guinness Draught, Guiness ES, Guiness FE, Harpoon, Heineken, Heineken Light, Hofbrau, Kokanee, Labatt Blue, Labatt Blue Light, Leinenkugels, Long Trail, Magic Hat, Michelob, Mikes Hard Lemonade, Miller, Miller Genuine Draft Canada, Miller Genuine Draft USA, Miller Light, Modelo Especial, Molson, Moosehead Canada, Moosehead USA, Negra Modelo, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Pacifico, Paulaner, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, Red Stripe, Samuel Adams, Samuel Smith, Sapporo, Sierra Nevada, St. Pauli Girl, Sleeman, Spaten Oktoberfest, Stella Artois, Stevens Point Special, Tecate, Tsingtao, Warsteiner, and Yuengling. The user rotates the display until their choice shows through the translucent selection window, and then touches the "Select Your Beer" button beneath.

This brings up the input screen, where the user enters the appropriate alphanumeric code located on the can, bottle, or packaging. An "Example" button is available to give a sample of the coding used for any particular brand. In the case of "Corona" the "Example" function advises, "On the bottom of the can, neck of the bottle, or the beer packaging there is a born on date code, e.g. "JH12A088", "AL02A097" or "HB23B032" etc. The date information is a coded born on date. Enter the first four characters e.g. "JH12", "AL02" or "HB23" from your bottle, can, or package and we'll calculate the age from the day it was born, before a purchase is made. Enjoy your beer!" Hitting the Enter button after entering the code computes the exact age, in days, of any beer they may be planning to consume.

Feature Highlights: * Always purchase the freshest, best tasting beer using MiBeerAge * Simple to use, the app includes more than 60 different brands of beer * Version 1.8 adds 6 additional brands to the spinning wheel selector * Add additional beers to the list using the in-app submission feature * Includes sample codes for all beers listed * Taste quality chart helps interpret results of determined age

There are numerous factors that may affect the taste of beer, but among the most important is the freshness. MiBeerAge suggests that beer 0 - 30 days old will taste excellent; 31 - 60 days, very good; 61 90 days, good; 91 - 120 days average; 121 days or more, poor. Other important factors include: temperature (always buy cold beer), the Pasteurization process employed, the sterile filtration process, the bottle/can conditioning process, and the beer recipe (some beers taste better aged, e.g. Gueuze).

"Millions of people buy beer every day, but most consumers don't realize that there is a date code, and in almost all instances the date codes are undecipherable. Our customers have reported beer that is 3 years past their expiration date for sale in some establishments," stated company President Roderick Fitzgerald. "Using MiBeerAge anyone can easily choose the freshest beer every time."
