SPARKLING FISH FARMING PROJECT

Improving Health, Transforming Economy and

Saving Lives through fish farming

Concept Note

Introduction
Sparkling Fish is a fish farming project being proposed by Maconet Agribusiness Solutions, with
an aim of mobilizing, organizing and serving small-holder farmers in rural areas Musoma district
located in Mara region. Tilapia is decreasingly unable to meet the rising demand as natural water
bodies of Lake Victoria are overfished. There is high community unrest, scrambling and illegal
fishing in Lake Victoria.
We are rearing tilapia fish in cages in Lake Victoria as the most sustainable and promising project
that can restore Tilapia in the region. Sparkling Sato Farming, is bringing floating cages
technology that will ensure fast fish growth by providing quality and balanced feeds and reduce
their stresses as a results of moving long distances searching for food.
Fish plays an important role in fighting hunger and malnutrition. Fish is not only a source of
proteins and healthy fats, but also a unique source of essential nutrients, including long-chain
omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, vitamin D, and calcium.

In 2018, more than 2.3 million Tanzanian children under 5 years of age were estimated to be
stunted and more than 600,000 were suffering from acute malnutrition, of which 100,000 were
severe cases. (Tanzania National Nutrition Survey (NNS) 2018). 22% of these children (506,000)
are in Mara region.
MEASUREMENT OF SUCCESS & MILESTONES TO BE ACHIEVED
i. Increased number of families involved in fish farming.
ii. Increased demand and supply of fish.
iii. Decreased mortality and morbidity of children.
iv. Ensured food security
v. Create wealth among the community members

In the next 3 years, we want to reach 1000 tons of fish in sales, help 100 families own fish
farming projects through cages or ponds and create 200 new employment opportunities.
Our Vision
To establish a digital company that creates future- ready farming solutions and value chain to the
agricultural sector in Tanzania.
Our mission statement
To build an economically-friendly and affordable solution through a digital technology that will
handle challenges facing rural agricultural sector in Tanzania, providing farmers with
opportunities to trade in digital platforms, access credit scoring systems and saving group
accounts; therefore, promoting value chain and market efficiencies.

Current activities, recent accomplishments, and future plans

We are working with the communities around Lake Victoria, more especially Beach
Management Unit (BMU), which act as the government’s helping hand to oversee all fishing
activities. Community engaged is our winning strategy. Community capacity building is about
promoting the ‘capacity’ of local communities to develop, implement and sustain their own
solutions to problems in a way that helps them shape and exercise control over their physical,
social, economic and cultural environments.
Our future plans, are to invest more on the communities around the lake, through training and
capacity building, making sure they are safeguarding resources from the lake and from their
surroundings. Investing in environmental education is the key to building knowledge and resilient
communities. By 2030, this project will be able to raise at least 5 million Tilapia fish.
The overall goal of the Sparkling Fish Farming is to develop a sustainable, competitive and more
efficient fisheries and aquaculture industry that contributes to the improvement of the livelihoods
of communities and the national economy while preserving the environment.
