Your ideas for scaffolding children at different developmental levels

Early:
Offer one on one guidance and support to those children who are struggling.
Middle:
Suggest pairing students and talking about all the different things that they found and if they know the names of
each item.

Later:
Encourage these students to find other items that are not listed on the worksheet and draw a picture of it on the
back of their papers.

End of Activity
Have children share one thing that they learned or found interesting. Reinforce the idea of exploring and trying
new things.

Beginning of Activity
Today, we are going to embark on a wonderful adventure exploring the beauty of nature. Who here loves
nature? Nature is all around us, and there is so much we can learn from it. Today, we're going to have our very
own nature exhibition where we can discover, learn, and have fun together. There will be 4 stations we will all
get a chance to get to.
**Station 1: Nature Scavenger Hunt**

**Station 2: Art Corner**

Welcome to the Art Corner, where nature inspires creativity! Grab some paper and art supplies. Let's create
beautiful artwork inspired by the wonders of nature. What colors will you use to paint the sky or the flowers?

**Station 3: Nature Facts**

Over here, we have some fascinating facts about nature. Did you know that bees help flowers grow by
pollinating them? Let's read together and learn some cool nature facts. Who wants to share a fact they learned?

**Station 4: Sensory Exploration**

At this station, we have magnifying glasses for a closer look at nature's details. Pick up a magnifying glass and
examine the intricate patterns on these leaves and rocks. What do you see that amazes you?

Middle of Activity
Now that we’ve all chosen which station we’re starting at, I will set a timer to let you know when we will
switch.

Your ideas for scaffolding children at different developmental levels

Early:
Break down tasks into simpler components or provide modified versions of the activity to match the child's
abilities.

Middle:
Suggest pairing students and talking about all the different things that they saw and to talk about the different
colors, textures and looks.

Later:
Suggest these students draw items that are not present in the exhibition.

End of Activity
Have children share one thing that they learned or found interesting. Reinforce the idea of exploring and trying
new things.

Opening statement

Good morning, everyone! Today, we are going to have a fantastic time exploring the wonderful world of
problem-solving through our building block challenge! Who’s ready to become super problem solvers today?
Building blocks aren’t just for building towers and bridges. They can also help us become amazing problem
solvers.

Middle of Activity
I want you to do your best to try and use the blocks provided to build a shape or structure. Feel free to
work together and think of different ways to solve the challenge.
(Also - Your ideas for scaffolding children at different developmental levels)

Early Extension:
Suggest to those children that are struggling to begin that they start with a simpler task such as stacking
the blocks.

Middle:
Children are building shapes with the blocks without a problem. Encourage children to reflect on their
building process and discuss what strategies worked well.

Later Extension:
Present a more complex problem-solving challenge such as building a bridge that another toy can stand
on.

End of Activity
Gather the children and review what problem solving means. Have the children share which strategies
worked and which didn’t. Discuss what kinds of problem-solving skills we encounter in our every day lives.

Follow-up Ideas -
Building block showcase - children can display and explain their creations to their peers.
Building block storytelling – children can incorporate story telling with the building block creations.
