Procedure Overview (brief description of the project)

Use of the Hall effect systems to measure electrical properties of thin films.

I. HAZARD ASSESSMENT
Document the hazards and the corresponding control measure(s) involved in each step of the procedure.

Consider elimination or substitution of hazards, if possible.

Engineering Control(s): items used to isolate the hazard from the user (i.e. fume hood, glove box, biosafety
cabinet).
Administrative Control(s): policies/programs to limit the exposure to the hazard (i.e. authorizations,
designated areas, time restrictions, training).
Required PPE: indicate PPE including specific material requirements if applicable

Some examples:
Lab coat

Other Control Measures

Methods (Include step by step instructions detailing the process or attach this document to an existing
method.)

A measurement requires inserting the sample onto the support and placing the four contacts on top of
the sample. Then, using the software to apply a current to the sample and measure the resulting voltage,
and extract important electrical parameters such as the resistivity, mobility and carrier concentration.
After the measurement is finished the sample is removed by taking the four contacts off the sample and
removing the sample with plastic tweezers.
During insertion and removal, the user has to hold a handle that is connected to GND with one hand (not
using gloves, so there is direct contact with skin), to avoid electric shocks.
