The line graph illustrates how many international tourists travelled to the UK for different

reasons from 1989 to 2009. Overall, while the number of them showed an upward trend
for the purpose of both visiting friends and relatives and work, this figures for holiday
experienced a period of unsteady.

In 1989, the quantities of people went to UK for meeting friends and relatives was the
lowest among three purpose, at around 3.5. Then, it surged by half in 2009, after which it
declined rapidly to nearly 6 millions in the following year. Similarly, there were 5
millions visitors travelling to UK for business. This figure hit the lowest point at 4
millions in around 1990, which was the same as the amount for meeting friends and
relatives in this year. However, it doubled from 4 to 8 millions in the year 2009 and
underwent a considerate decrease afterwards.

Tourists going UK for holiday saw the greatest amount compared to the remaining
purposes, at 6.5 millions in the beginning year of the timescales and fluctuated between
6.5 to 9 millions during this period. It also maintained top position at the ending year.
