Scenario
1. From Sara’s perspective, she gets her grade boosted. This could be the deciding factor between
getting a scholarship or an offer of admission compared to not getting one. A higher grade may
also benefit her mental health. From the professor’s perspective, they may be seen as more lenient
in the eyes of Sara, making it a more comfortable learning environment for her and other
students.
2. From the professor’s perspective, doing this may go against the academic code of conduct and it
may be seen as unprofessional. This could potentially jeopardize their job along with the school’s
reputation.
3. From Sara’s perspective, she wishes to boost her grade for her own personal reasons. She may not
understand the feasibility of this request, and the professor’s responsibility is to explain this so
that Sara can make an informed decision. From the professor’s perspective, they are concerned
with maintaining academic integrity and being fair to the rest of the students, while also making
sure that they respect Sara’s wishes.
4. If only Sara were to have her grade increased, this would be unfair to the rest of the class, as they
were not aware that requests like these could increase their grades. Educational institutions are
meant to be fair to all students.
Casper keywords
1. If answering an ethical scenario, I would explicitly mention the word and that I would be working
with people relevant to finding the solution to the problem. If answering a personal scenario, I
would again explicitly mention the word as well as explain the importance of this trait as a
healthcare professional. Simply put, patient care involves working with multiple healthcare
providers, which makes good collaboration skills necessary.
2. This can be displayed by phrases such as “active listening” as well as being willing to talk things
out before taking action.
3. Mentioning this word and attempting to verbalize the feelings of everyone involved in a specific
situation would be the best ways to display this trait.
4. Considering all sides to an ethical dilemma, and specifically mentioning that you would deal with
the situation in a “non-judgmental” manner is the key to showing this trait. In questions that ask
you for your personal opinion on a matter, it is important to remain unbiased.
5. This can be suitably displayed by using the 4 principles of bioethics, as well as pointing out when
something is morally correct or incorrect.
6. This trait is especially relevant for ethical scenarios, and it can be shown by giving a list of
thoughtful and relevant reasons for why someone may have chosen a specific course of action.
7. This trait can be displayed by explaining how you resolved a situation you are explaining in a
personal question, for example. For ethical scenarios, this would be done near the end of the
question if it involves you having to make a decision.

important for high-quality patient care and a safe environment for all workers.
9. If answering an ethical scenario, this trait can be displayed by attempting to navigate problems by
gathering more information, explicitly mentioning words such as “persistence”, or remaining
optimistic. If answering a personal question, the same concepts can be applied.
10. If answering an ethical scenario, this trait can be displayed by understanding your role and acting
within it, asking for help from others where necessary. If answering a personal question, the same
can be done when referring to a personal situation.

MedBoys Ethical Scenario Template ANSWERS
Question 1:
In this difficult situation, my main concerns are the wellbeing of my fellow group members and making
sure that we finish our assigned task. I would approach this in a non-judgmental, non-confrontational
manner by first gathering information from the aggressor and the upset student privately. It may be that
the aggressor was frustrated due to personal reasons and took it out on another group member, or that
there was a disagreement between the two. If there was a disagreement, I would work with both members
to resolve the dispute, as I understand that this could impact our group’s ability to complete the project. If
this frustration was misguided, I would have a private conversation with the aggressor and explain the
harm that this caused to the mental wellbeing of the upset student, encouraging them to apologize. In
conclusion, I would act to resolve the problem in the best way possible for the sake of everyone’s
wellbeing, and continually follow up with both individuals to ensure they have all the resources needed to
complete their tasks without issue.
Question 2:
I understand that reporting the group member could result in serious academic penalties for this
individual, and especially if this was a genuine mistake, it would be unfair to report this individual
without speaking to them first. However, if the issue still persists or the aggressor continues to behave
rudely, I may have no choice but to report them to the professor or any relevant authority to ensure that
everyone’s wellbeing is maintained and that we can finish our project on time.
Question 3:
When I was the head tutor of Kumon, I made the difficult, unpopular decision of increasing each staff
member’s hours as a result of increased student enrolment. This was unpopular because staff members
were students balancing work with their schooling, and they were unhappy when I told them that we
required more hours from them. To make this decision, I had to speak with my supervisor and senior staff
members to come to an arrangement that is fair to everyone, while prioritizing the functioning of our
institution. I learned the importance of not wavering in the face of interpersonal conflict and sticking with
a difficult decision, a skill that is important for healthcare professionals because making decisions
regarding a patient may involve differences in opinion.

MedBoys Personal Scenario Template ANSWERS
Question 1:
One time I had difficulty adapting to a situation was when I was a research assistant at the University of
Toronto. The principal investigator had given me a plethora of responsibilities including doing
background research, coming up with a research based questionnaire, recruiting participants, analyzing
data, and writing the manuscript. As a first-year student, I was overwhelmed and found it hard to adapt to
all these small projects. I felt imposter syndrome and thought I didn't deserve this position. However, after
thinking about the problem further and introspecting, I realized I had worked very hard to get this role and
the PI definitely trusts me enough to give me all these responsibilities. If they believe in me, why
shouldn’t I? With this belief, I started working on all these projects one by one and eventually got the
study done with a great amount of hard work. The PI was very impressed and helped me secure another
research position as well. This taught me the importance of self-awareness and confidence.
Question 2:
As a first year student, I was quite anxious when faced with this situation. Now that I have gone through
this experience and many similar ones, I have realized that in situations of stress and anxiety, remaining
calm and composed is the best thing to do. Although completing all of my assigned tasks all at once
seemed daunting, I would try to compose myself and split everything up into smaller goals. For example,
in terms of the questionnaire, I would make a list of all the items I need to research separately and tick
them off as I go. This way I keep progressing and the stress goes down with every item.
Question 3:
Uncertainty is a very interesting feeling. There were many times in my life when I had to deal with
uncertainty. One of my most memorable ones was when I was working on my non-profit organization,
Blankets for T.O.. My friends and I had spent a whole year after this organization because we were
passionate about helping the homeless population here in Toronto. However, we did not know if all our
work would amount to anything or change anything. My mentality was that we cannot control the
unknown, so there’s no point of thinking about it. We put our heads down and kept working and today we
have donated over 8000 items and helped over 2000 individuals.

MedBoys Policy Question Template ANSWERS
Question 1:
The legalization of cannabis is nuanced because of the number of people it impacts in both positive and
negative ways. One pro is that it enables more people to use medical cannabis legally, which can help
treat conditions such as treatment-resistant depression. Another pro is that legalizing marijuana reduces
the social stigma around using the drug, allowing more people to use it comfortably.
Question 2:
The cons to legalizing marijuana are that first of all, young adolescents could gain access to it, increasing
the chances that these individuals could abuse the drug and be negatively impacted by it. Secondly, due to
potentially widespread use of the drug, it may result in more impaired driving incidents.
Question 3:
Given the pros and cons, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons, and that marijuana should be legalized.
However, to minimize the impact of the cons, marijuana should be tightly regulated, clear guidelines
should be provided on what constitutes appropriate use, and hefty penalties should be highlighted for
those who endanger others through marijuana use.
