Today my presentation topic is

Human needs And Maslow's

Heriarchy basic human needs
Now start my presentation !
Human Needs

✧ Needs are something that are necessary for an organism

to live a healthy life .
✧ Human beings have certain basic needs. We must have
food, water, air, and shelter to survive. If any one of these
basic needs is not met, then humans cannot survive.
Three types of Human needs!

❑ objective/ physical
❑ subjective/physiological
❑ self-fulfillment or self- actualization
Maslow Hierarchy of Human needs
✧ (1908 to 1970 )
It was in 1943 a Psychologist
Mr. Abraham Harold Maslow
suggested his Theory of
Human
*Definition
theory of psychology that
describes human motivation
and behavior.
Maslow's
hierarchy of
needs is often
represented as a
pyramid, with the
more basic needs
at the bottom.
Deficiency needs and growth needs!

✧ The most fundamental and basic four layers of the pyramid

contain what Maslow called "deficiency needs or D-needs ":
esteem, friendship and love, security, and physical needs.

✧ Growth Needs
✧ This is desires needs of individual like growing strive for
self-actualization and for knowledge and understanding.
Physiological needs!

✧ Physiological needs are the basic needs for sustaining human

life.
✧ These needs include food, shelter, clothing, rest, air, water,
sleep and sexual satisfaction
✧ These basic human needs (also called biological needs) lie at the
lowest level in the hierarchy of needs as they have priority over
all other needs.
Safety needs!

✧ Needs that provide a person with a sense of security,

well-being, and freedom from physical
✧ and emotional harm:
✧ Living in a safe area
✧ Medical insurance
✧ Job security
✧ Financial reserves
✧ Good health
✧ Protection from harm
Love belonging !
✧ A er safety needs are met, individuals seek social relationships
and a sense of belonging. This includes intimate relationships,
friendships, and a sense of community.
✧ Examples of these needs include friendship, intimacy, trust,
acceptance, receiving and giving affection and love.
Esteem !

✧ This can include both self-esteem and the esteem of others.

✧ Esteem needs are the basis for the human desire we all have to
be accepted and valued by others. Throughout our lives, we
participate in activities either professionally or as hobbies that
give us a sense of accomplishment.
✧ Some examples of Esteem Needs in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
are honors, awards, academic licenses, luxurious items,
promotion, social status, and fame.
self-actualization!

✧ Definition of self- actualization

✧ Has no mental illness
✧ Satisfied in basic needs
✧ Fully exploited talents
✧ Motivated by values
The quest of reaching one’s full potential as a person leads to the summit of
Maslow’s
motivation theory. Unlike lower level needs, this need is never fully satisfied; as
one grows
psychologically, there are always new opportunities to grow. Self-actualized
people tend to
have motivators such as:
Truth
Justice
Wisdom
Meaning
Self-actualized people have frequent occurrences of peak experiences, which are
energized
moments of profound happiness and harmony.
Maslow's Assumptions in Hierarchy of Needs Theory are;
Man is a wanting being, i.e. his wants are growing continuously even when some
wants are satisfied.
Human needs are of varied and diversified nature. They can be arranged in a
hierarchy of importance
progressing from a lower to a higher order of needs.

l. According to Maslow, "Man lives by bread alone when there is nobread."

However, he feels the other needs when his physiological needs are fulfilled. In brief,
bread is important but man does not live by bread alone.
conclusion !
Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a pyramid of the needs
that motivate people. Individuals most basic needs, at
the base of the pyramid, are physiological. Once they
have fulfilled these needs, people move on to their
safety needs, social well-being, self-esteem then
ultimately their need for self-actualization
