GRADE 7

Week 1 Lesson 1

Topic: How a Scientist Works

Sub-topic: Laboratory Safety Rules

Objective(s): After observing videos, students will list at least five (5) safety rules they must
adhere-to when using the science laboratory.

Content: When using the laboratory it is extremely important for us to observe all the
rules that govern the use of the science laboratory.

Now look at the videos below by clicking on the links. After you have
observed the videos, make a list of five (5) things you must not do when using
the laboratory in your note book. Then compare your list to the one given
below (Fact Sheet).

Tip: Look at the videos at least twice in-order to identify most of the do’s/don’ts.

Home Work: Name five (5) safety symbols that are usually posted in a science laboratory.
Cut and paste (or draw) the pictures of the ones you have named in your note
book.

Fact Sheet:

1. Follow all instructions given by your teacher.

2. Wear a lab coat when doing practical work or experiments.
3. Report all accidents, injuries, and breakage of glass or equipment to your teacher
immediately.
4. Keep pathways clear by placing extra items (books, bags, etc.) on the shelves or
under the work tables. If under the tables, make sure that these items cannot be

up.
12. Unauthorized experiments or procedures must not be attempted.
13. Keep solids out of the sink.
