Philippe Athanatiades w as born in France in 1947. He started his career w orking in the hotel business w ith his parents in
Paris. Afterw ards, he managed several clubs, camps, and hotels in the French capital and in Corsica.

Several years later, Philippe moved to Africa to manage operations in exclusive hunting reserves and hotels in Chad and
Cameroon.

At the beginning of the 70s, he joined the most exclusive and most competitive diving team in Brazil. For 10 years, he
searched shipw recks and w orked on oil platforms.

Almost four decades ago, w e came to live in Panama, w here he opened tw o very popular restaurants in the city, “Casco Viejo”
and “Las Bóvedas”.

A avid fisher and expert diver, at the start of the 80s, w hile fishing on Los Frailes island, the motor of his fishing boat broke
dow n, and the tide dragged him to Playa Los Destiladeros. His first impression w hen arriving on the Pedasi coast w as a “coup
de coeur”, love at first sight. He w as fascinated by the beaches, the vegetation, and the place and decided to set up his home
there. The first ten years w ere tough, since the area w as isolated, w ithout any roads, w ith rivers that became impassible many
times during the year and even w ithout any services, but Philippe alw ays remembered these years as a happy and
harmonious time in his life.

He soon set up Barcos Pacífico del Este, S.A., a multifaceted company specializing in land development and management,
commercial reforestation, and tourism. He participated in obtaining 1000 hectares along 8 kilometers on the Pacific coastline
close to Pedasi, w here he began reforestation by planting 250,000 lumber and fruit trees. He opened several roads (for
example, the one to Puerto Escondido), and started developing the area.

Through the company Bienes Raíces Panamá Bambú, together w ith his partner for many years, Mery Troya, he started buying
and selling properties, especially in Playa Los Destiladeros, Pedasi, and on the Santos coast. Philippe alw ays stood out as an
excellent buyer of land and an even better seller. Many times, he w ould go to Europe to look for buyers among his friends and
acquaintances. He sold properties to a large number of foreigners of many different nationalities.

He turned his home into Posada Los Destiladeros, a beautiful boutique hotel w ith 18 small huts facing the beach, w ith a
restaurant w here his guests could experience his excellent cooking skills.

Philippe Athanatiades w as the pioneer of the foreigners w ho came to Pedasi. After some health issues, “The French”, as he
w as also know n, passed aw ay this September in his beloved Playa Los Destiladeros. May he rest in peace.

Philippe Athanatiades naci6 en Francia en 1947. Comenz6
su carrera trabajando en el negocio de hoteleria con sus
padres en Paris. Posteriormente administr6 varios clubes,
campamentos y hoteles en la Capital Francesa y en Corcega. 00:00

par la Union de afios busc6 embarcaciones naufragadas y trabaj6 en
Triatl6nde plataformas de petr6leo.
Panama Hace casi cuatro decadas, vino a vivir a Panama donde
fund6 dos restaurantes en la ciudad muy reconocidos
"Casco Viejo" y "Las B6vedas".

 Pescador avido y experto buceador, a principios de la
decada de las 80 estando pescando en la Isla de las Frailes
se les averi6 el motor del bate y la marea les arrastr6 a Playa
Los Destiladeros. Su primera impresi6n cuando arrib6 a
esta costa de Pedasf fue un "coup de coeur", un
enamoramiento a primera vista. Qued6 prendado de las
playas, la vegetaci6n y el lugar y decidi6 establecer allf su
hogar. Los primeros 10 afios fueron duros ya que el area
VIRGEN DEL estaba aislada, sin carretera, con rfos infranqueables en
CARMEN muchas epocas del afio y sin apenas servicios, pero
PROTEGEA Philippe siempre recordaba esos afios coma una epoca feliz
y armoniosa.
NUESTROS
PESCADORES Y Pronto comenz6 con Barcos Pacifico del Este, SA., una
TRAILOS DE multifacetica compafi.ia dedicada al desarrollo y
VUELTA A CASA administraci6n de tierras, reforestaci6n comercial y
turismo. Particip6 en la obtenci6n de 1000 hectareas en 8
kil6metros de costa Pacifica cerca de Pedasf, en las que
comienza a reforestar con cerca de 250,000 arboles
maderables y frutales. Abri6 varias carreteras (par ejemplo,
la que lleva a Puerto Escondido), y comenz6 a desarrollar el
area.

A traves de la empresa de Bienes Rafces Panama Bambti.,

junta con la que fue su compafiera par muchos afios Mery
Troya, comenz6 a comprar y vender propiedades sabre
todo en Playa Los Destiladeros, Pedasf y la costa de Los
Santos. Philippe siempre se destac6 par ser un excelente
comprador de tierras y un mejor vendedor. Salfa muchas
veces a Europa a buscar las compradores entre sus
amistades y conocidos. Vendi6 propiedades a muchisimos
extranjeros de las mas variadas nacionalidades.

Su casa la trasform6 en La Posada Los Destiladeros, un

hermoso Boutique Hotel del8 casitas frente a la playa con
un restaurante donde sus invitados podfan apreciar lo
excelente cocinero que fue.

Philippe Athanatiades fue el pionero de las extranjeros que

llegaron a Pedasf. "El Frances" coma era tambien conocido,
tras unos quebrantos de salud falleci6 este septiembre en
su amada Playa Los Destiladeros. Que descanse en paz.
