INRODUCTION TO ECO RESORT

Eco-resort is an environmentally friendly accommodation aiming to promote eco-
tourism and green living. It ranges from comfortable to ultra-luxury and
adventures. The main objective of this proposal is to design an energy efficient and
sustainable resort. For the promotions of internal and external tourism there is need
to provide local as well as national economy.
Eco-resort comes under eco-tourism, also known as eco-accommodation or
environmental attractions.
They preserve and restore native habitats.
Eco resorts are designed to exercise the principles of eco-tourism. In theory they
should:

 Minimize their environmental footprint. (Energy, water, waste).

 Promote the wellbeing of local people through education.
 Promote and care for the local landscapes & wildlife.

The world's tropical zone extends to approximately 4000 km north and 3500 km
south of the equator and cover's one third of earth's land surface. Globally the
tropical areas have a coastline of over 60,000 km attracting millions of tourists
every year. Therefore, more recreational infrastructure in the tropical areas is
needed and tourist resorts have started moving into previously undeveloped areas.

Facilities built for tourists have to be designed to cope with the climatic stress of
the tropics and must provide a lifestyle compatible with tourist's requirement, in
the most economical way. Although majority of the travelers come from developed
countries, most tourist-attracting tropical areas are in developing countries. There
are tourists who want to get closer to the nature and culture of the region and at the
same time are aware of the need to preserve what is left of it. This desire gave rise

to the eco-tourism movement more than 30 years ago. Today, eco-tourism is

coming of age, being the fastest growing segment of tourist industry. Our
environmental concerns are reflected in our choices about spending our holidays.
Eco-tourism is an expression of this trend.

It is said that architecture reflects needs, desires, customs, attitudes and aspirations
present in society. Hence there are a number of reasons for which eco resorts
should display an environmental-friendly attitude. Much more can also be done to
integrate tourist developments with the cultural heritage of their hosting regions,
their customs and social fabric.

AIM
To design an eco-resort which responds to the climatic and energy consumption
issues raised by the present-day architecture through eco-sensitive design
strategies.

OBJECTIVES
• Providea recreational environment for the resort through varieties of facilities
and functions.

 Provide hospitality for both domestic and foreigner tourists and promote
eco-tourism.
 The establishment of tourist resort will create the economic opportunities to
site neighborhood. Also, the local and national economy will boost.
 Create an interactive ground for locals and visitors so that there may be
interchange of ideas and cultural demonstration.
 Provide a space for official meetings and seminars in natural surroundings.
 Make analytical study of the functional requirements of resort and
implement efficient design to carry out the functions smoothly.
 Respond to climatic and energy consumption issues raised by present day
architecture through co-sensitive design. In addition, there are various

objective related to achieving proper functioning-built forms, that can be

achieved through literature reviews and research. Thus, the objectives are to,
1. Study about the materials and technology regarding the sustainability in
design.
2. Study about energy efficient design.
3. Study about passive solar architecture.
4. Study about low-cost sustainable building materials.
5. Study about spatial organization and a real need of resort programs.

SCOPE
 An opportunity to study local architecture taking inspiration from the local
environment, keeping in minds the climatic factors and user attitude.
 It also provides an opportunity to study local culture and heritage.
 It is important to create an environment for people to relax and at the same
time meet the functional requirements. Hence it provides an opportunity to
deal with the visual, behavioral, technical and functional aspect of design.
 The resort will be a place to gain knowledge regarding the green design, as it
will apply integrated energy system.

LIMITATIONS

 It will not focus more on social survey, research as this is an academic

project, and this does not fall under the primary constraint.

ASSIGNMENT -3 - SYNOPSIS REPORT

 The project will not focus on structural analysis of built structures of

resorts, although structural consultation will be made and it will not be
sufficient.

 The project will not cover all the details related to green design
incorporated, though research will be made and required level of
detailing will be done to meet the architectural requirement.

 Detailed environment assessment will not be done due to limitation of

knowledge in this field and it is not our primary focus, as the project
is virtual.

Purpose
Ecotourism is important because it actively protects the natural world through
tourism. Ecotourism all about active tourism. It's a small-scale and low impact
form of travel that seeks out ways to preserve the natural world by ensuring that
biodiversity, ecosystems and local communities remain protected and unspoiled.
It's a rewarding and educational experience that improves our cultural awareness
and understanding of nature.

and understanding of nature.

Need
The world absolutely needs more ecotourism. It teaches travelers to be more
attuned to the pristine areas of the world, it helps educate people, it provides funds
for conservation as well as for local communities (often indigenous). Also, because
a state of respect and awareness is awakened in the tourist, the quality of his travels
is also increased significantly.

Architectural Relationship
The success of any tourism facility (including ecologies, which are the appropriate
facilities for ecotourism) often lies on the initial process of site evaluation and
selection. Careful evaluation, in some instances, may reveal that the site is not
appropriate for developing the facility. All considerations involved in selecting the
most appropriate site will be essential in any forthcoming decisions dealing with
design and construction.

Terminologies

1. Eco Resort-A tourist resort whose facilities are intended to have a minimal
impact on the local environment.

2. Ecotourism Tourism directed towards exotic, often threatened, natural

environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife.

3. Sustainability- Avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to

maintain an ecological balance.
