ICIC - Autonomous Resource Allocation

1 ICIC - Autonomous Resource Allocation
Overview

The feature allows uplink and downlink interference management.

Access Type: LTE

Feature Identity: FAJ 121 1074
Value Package Name: LTE Base Package
Value Package Identity: FAJ 801 0400
Node Type: Baseband Radio Node
Licensing: Basic feature. No license is required.

Summary
The AIR interface resources are divided by time and frequency into resource
blocks. Each resource block uses 180 kHz of the spectrum and has a length of
1 ms. The amount of resource blocks allocated depends on the amount of data
available and the channel conditions.

The allocation of resources in the AIR interface is controlled by the network.

The ICIC - Autonomous Resource Allocation feature introduces support to

activate the downlink and uplink interference management. The downlink
interference management functionality randomly selects the starting point in
frequency. The uplink interference management functionality randomly selects
the starting point in frequency from the lower or the upper end.

This feature increases the end-user bitrate, while operating under a moderate
load level.

Additional Information
For information on the preferred state and parameter settings of this feature, see
RAN Parameter Recommendations Lists.

ICIC - Autonomous Resource Allocation

2 Dependencies of ICIC - Autonomous

Resource Allocation

It is recommended to use the default configuration of ICIC - Autonomous

Resource Allocation when it is used together with the Minimum Interference
Scheduling feature. The feature cannot be used together with the Flexible
Channel Bandwidth feature.

Table 1 Feature Dependencies

Feature Relationship Description
Minimum Interference Related The uplink ICIC can
Scheduling (FAJ 121 block PUSCH PRBs,

allocated by the uplink
scheduler. Blocked PRBs
between two PUCCH
regions can lead
to inaccurate PRB
use calculations. In
addition, they affect
the randomized start
position function of the
Minimum Interference
Scheduling feature.
Blocked PRBs can
also move to the
reserved region if an
uplink reserved region
is configured. Using
the default configuration
for the ICIC -
Autonomous Resource
Allocation feature is
recommended for the
best uplink interference
management results.
Flexible Channel Conflicting The Flexible Channel
Bandwidth (FAJ 121 Bandwidth and the

Resource Allocation
features cannot be
used together. To use
the Flexible Channel
Bandwidth feature,

4 Activate Non-License-Controlled Features

Non-license-controlled features do not require manual activation and

cannot be deactivated.

While license-controlled features need to be activated, non-license-controlled

features are activated automatically during node integration. They also do not
have a software license key associated, which means that they have no entries in
the LKF that is installed on the node.

In some cases, non-license-controlled features need to be configured manually or

have some of their subfunctions enabled to work properly.
