REFLECTION

I consider that it is really important to use the standards in order to create this lesson because I could think about what activities to do with the explorers in order to

the age. I consider that preschools kids enjoy doing activities where they could engage, interact and express their own ideas. For this reason, I choose the

standards to work with my lesson because I wanted to create a safe and friendly environment where they were able to engage and explore through music. The

lesson title was « Music Ocean » I choose it because they were able to become part of the ocean through applying songs, moving and singing. Explorers were

able to sing by imitation ocean animal’s words with sounds and integrating these words in a lyric. They actively explore the use of objects such as the cards and

the environment where they were able to move around and being part of the ocean. During my lesson students sung and imitate a goldfish song where they were

able to apply basic knowledge, movement and coordination was also applied, the understanding of rhythm and musical concepts though singing and moving

through the song was also achieved during the activity. I consider that it was really important for them to achieve the goals because it let them become more

social, they have interest to smile to their peers and become more social while moving around the carpet. Also, during the song with cards I realize that it was very

important to have materials to use because visuals supports students to have a better understanding of the sequence of the song, as well as, students with

specials needs or ESL will support better because the can related the card/picture to the song/s lyric in order to let them learn better and enjoy the activity. I

personally as a trilingual (Spanish, English, French) student, I realize that while I use cards with pictures and the words, I could learn better and as I was reading

through the chapters of the book Creative Thinking and Art based Learning, explained that « visual aids to focus attention. Concrete materials support children

with emotional and intellectual challenges. » (Page 164 J. Senberg) So, I noticed that during the card son activity they were engaging because it keep their

attention focused the word they were asked to use for their part of the song.

I consider that including modifications in my lessons for students was important for the reason that I could enhanced comprehension through visual aids thought

music because preschool kids are still developing their language skills as well as, imaginative play and exploration of the environment let them be included in the

activity because they could feel confident and enjoy moving and though my lesson I could fostering inclusion to those who may be shy or hesitant to do not sing

they were able to feel supported and encouraged for when I explained them or asked them directly about their animal.

When I was implementing this lesson for me it was very important to explain students what our activities were plan, and repeating steps to follow as they need it,

because I was not sure if all students would be able to understand or participate the same. So, for me it was important to learned that all students have different

skills, interest. And when I was able to communicate and engage with them, I was able to observe, and I collected DATA by asking another teacher to take me

photos while I was with them. I noticed through photographs that students were all very attentive, but being attentive doesn’t mean all the time they understand.

So, though my DATA and experience in the implementation I concluded that some students were shy to repeat the words, but once I got closer to them and I

directly asked of them to tell me part of the song by adding the word they were able to do it. I consider that I learn as a future educator that through assess

developmental skills for students was important because through the exploration of singing and expressing the use of ocean cards and recognize them, move

around the classroom and being able to become part of the environment was essential for them. And for me as a future educator to observe if they were able to

participate and observe what could I do differently in the lesson. I learned that each student has different cognitive skills, so during music provide them the

opportunity to demonstrate attention, respond to the rhythmic and the dynamic I was looking for. I could learn that they are able to demonstrate motor skills, so I

also identified that they coordinate and sing along.

As a future teacher I would like to do more activities like these, my lessons will have more topics, but I would like to implement music and visuals as well. I

consider that my lesson goes as I planned, I didn’t have the opportunity to read a book, but in my first lesson I added a book to read before the activities is about

music and fishes. Overall, I achieved the time and my lesson activités. I would only add a reading and if they could choose a fish to describe it would be interesting

to have as a change in my future lessons. I would like as well to add more materials for my future classroom such as: Drums, Water, Wood Sounders, egg

shakers. By adding the instruments students will develop more musical skills. So, I will be able to assess students' strengths and weaknesses during the lesson as

well.
