WEEK 3
LESSSON 1.0: Recognizing a Potential Market
LESSON 1.1: Identifying the Market Problem

A. Recognizing a Potential Market

• Factors to Consider as a New Entrepreneur
A. Know your product or services D. Know your competitors
B. Analyze the market potentials E. Do not rest on your laurels
C. Determine the marketing strategy
• Environmental Scanning
- Environmental scanning entails gathering and analyzing data about external influences on a business, such as economic, social,
technological, political, and ecological trends.
- This process helps businesses spot potential opportunities for growth and innovation, while also identifying threats like
regulatory changes or market shifts.
- By staying updated on environmental shifts, businesses can make informed strategic choices, adjusting their plans to leverage
opportunities and minimize risks. Consistent environmental scanning allows businesses to anticipate market changes, staying ahead
of competitors and ensuring long-term success.
- Ultimately, this proactive approach helps maintain competitiveness and sustainability over time.
- The following Factors are Contributory to the Development of Customer Satisfaction:
1. Business Location for Small Entrepreneurs 2. Location for Small Industrial Plant or Manufacturing
Facilities
a) Rent and Space a) Land Area
b) Terms of lease agreement c) Facilities for Expansion
d) Type of Goods or Merchandise e) Power and Utilities
f) Income Level of Prospective Customer g) Building and Other Utilities
h) Prospective Sales Volume i) Plant Site Accessibility
j) Municipal or City Ordinances including Taxes and Fees k) Land Area
l) Location of the Areas
• Environmental Scanning: Internal Analysis (SWOT Analysis)
- SWOT Analysis is a valuable tool for entrepreneurs to assess their business's profitability. It involves identifying internal
strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats.
B. Identifying the Market Problem
• What are Market Problems?
- To simply put, market problems are the challenges, frustrations, and unmet needs of your customer base.
- It sounds easy enough, but don’t mistake a simple definition as a simple concept. Here’s a closer look to what the Market
Problem is.
- First, be sure you’re using the broadest possible definition of “Market”. You can think of your Market as your customers or
even your target audience. But that would be ignoring a larger, potential customer base that includes customers of your competition
and also non-customers.
- Secondly, it is necessary to be able to distinguish problems (challenges, frustrations, and unmet needs) from market desires and
competitor capabilities. Problems can be observed and are measurable. They’re qualitative and quantitative. They’re what really
drives a decision to buy.
• Identifying the Market Problem
- In building product, entrepreneurs can meet customer’s needs. In identifying market problem, the following can be
considered:
1. Existing customers are the people who have already purchased the product you are selling.
2. Target market users are the people in your target market who are not currently looking for a solution.
3. Prospects are the people who have not yet purchased your product but have an intention to buy.
