Real-Life Project Reflection

Throughout the course of my educational career, I have received the opportunity to learn

and grow not only as an elementary educator, but also an instructional designer. In order for me

to create engaging and effective learning for both my students and users of eLearning modules, I

ensure to follow a series of design steps. The design steps I follow to ensure the most amount of

success within the learner’s experiences includes creating a needs assessment, creating the

eLearning module, implementing the eLearning module, and evaluating the eLearning module.

Utilizing these series of steps within my overall design process helps to ensure the most amount

of success for the overall learning within a specific concept.

Beginning with the needs assessment, I was able to determine the audience in which I

was creating an eLearning module, and what their desired goal consists of. From there, I am able

to determine which type of learning and or training solution will be the most effective for the

learners. Utilizing surveys, focus groups, and questionnaires are examples of methods one can

utilize to gather necessary information (Team Asana, 2023). In my design process, I utilized a

pre-survey to determine what the learners desired to achieve. Within this step, I was able to

determine if any eLearning concepts will be minimally effective for the learning, along with any

difficulties I might encounter later in the project.

Throughout the needs assessment step, and pre-survey, minimal difficulties arose when

determining how I can create an effective eLearning module. The main difficulty I encountered

during my design process was the wording how much knowledge was needed for the learners.

While I did not want to over provide important information for the learners, I also did not want

to hinder or limit the needed information for learners to be successful. Taking the time to slow

down and determine specifically who my audience was, and what they needed to be successful

was the best step I could do to limit any difficulties. Being aware of this information helped me

to ensure that I developed an effective and appropriate plan (O’Neil, 2024), thus allowing for me

to overcome these difficulties with time.

Once determining my learners needs, and overcoming any difficulties, I then began

designing the eLearning module. After designing the eLearning module, I began the

implementation process. In order for me to do this, I brought this design to my professional

workplace to seek feedback on my design. After receiving feedback from my colleges, I hosted a

mini training course. My purpose for implementing eLearning module in a mini training course

was to help determine how effective my eLearning module was as this was my first time utilizing

the multimedia design platform Adobe Captivate (Adobe Systems, 2022). After completing the

mini training course, I sent out a questionnaire for users to review my overall design module and

submit any feedback they have regarding the overall training course.

Taking the time to receive feedback prior to implementing my eLearning module from

my colleges, and after the implementation of the eLearning module from the learners was one of

the most effective tasks, I believe I could have done for a new instructional designer. Some of

the feedback I received from my professional colleges included, praise, questions, and next steps

as to how we can permanently implement this eLearning module into our yearly professional

development. The feedback I received from the learners of my eLearning module included,

praise as to how beneficial this eLearning course is, how happy they are to have had the

opportunity to complete it and expressed that they believe this eLearning module will help they

continue to support their child. Receiving such positive feedback on my first successful creation

of an eLearning module using Adobe Capitative (Adobe Systems, 2022). was a positive

experience for me!

Receiving such positive feedback from the creation of my first eLearning module using

Adobe Capitative (Adobe Systems, 2022) not only built my confidence as an educator, but also

an instructional designer. Changes that I would make before my next implementation and or

before my full implementation would be to show my design to as many colleges as possible. I

would do this with the intent on receiving more feedback regarding my overall design process. In

addition to that, I will continue to enhance my skills with the multimedia design tool. All in all,

the eLearning module that I created within this design process provided me with a new and

larger understanding of a learners needs from both an educator’s perspective and instructional

design perspective!
