The course is an attempt at offering an interdisciplinary perspective on


Brief Description on Environment to students of Law. It aims to introduce the major debates that
Course (Maximum 500 environmentalists/Ecologists are currently engaged in, to then understand the
words) politics of major environmental issues and policies at the global, national and
regional levels. While Global issues would be addressed, the focus of this
course is India. The course argues that environment is a political subject that
needs to be retrieved from its technocentric-economic moorings. The current
environmental crisis has to be seen from an ecological perspective for the
Earth to recover and heal.

A major takeaway of this course, it is hoped, would be to sensitise students to


environmental concerns and sharpen their understanding about the power
relations involved in the inter-relationship between human activities and the
environment.

The Course will have 5 Broad Modules spread over 20 hours of Class.
Of this, 15-16 hours would be Lectures and 4-5 hours would be
allocated for Interactive Class Discussions, Evaluation and Term Paper
Presentation).
