Throughout the 12 weeks of PREP 1300, I have learnt many strategies and skills

to help me demonstrate my understanding for the real world. This leads to the content of week 9.

Week 9 focuses on how students work to manage school, work, relationships, family, friends, etc.

The course content for week 9 provides information on managing your time effectively,

prioritizing tasks, taking care of yourself both mentally and physically.

I am an individual that is prone to stress. I need help finding strategies on how to cope

stress and manage my time effectively. In class we learnt two different terms on balance:

Academic balance and psychological balance. Academic balance is having requirements of all

courses being met. Psychological Balance is how you think, feel, and behave in ways that are

helpful to achieving goals. I always tend to corporate these balances in my life to help me

conduct a smooth transition from school to my career path. I noticed that I need support on

guiding with change. Not everyone is open to change, and I am that person. I am trying to

understand that I can transition to change smoothly and cope with a good schedule to provide a

stress-free environment.

My professor, provided me a self-assessment that states “Are you Prone to Stress?” It had

many questions matching how I feel. Some of the questions were “I find it hard to ask for help

with a problem? I get angry easily, I have a lot of deadlines at work or school?, etc.” Out of the

20 questions we must rank 1 out 4: 1 being never, 4 being always. In total I got 58, which means

I am somewhat prone to stress. This self-assessment provided me some feedback on how I feel

with stress. It gave me an idea of how I can slowly start to manage my stress, and how I can

avoid stressful environments.

However, I thrive to keep challenges and disappointments a strength to rise difficult

circumstances. A very personal note, but the word “resilient” is a very meaningful word to me.

Previously, I mentioned I am not a fond of change, but I can bounce back. I have survived a lot

of personal issues outside of school, and it took a toll on my mental health. I felt like I was

stuck, and I couldn’t move forward with my life, until I came across a break-even of managing

my happiness. To help myself get through difficult situations I always tend to think about

experiences that make me feel confident. I always find the good in negativity and provide myself

positive affirmations to get along with my day. In class, we learnt about self-advocacy and

resiliency, and I can say I am a resilient individual.

In class, majority of our content provides students’ academic preparation and real-world

information such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, networking, and diverse topics. I

can say that sometimes not all students take home information and apply it to their daily lives,

but I do.

Class engaging activities and content has made me feel very overwhelmed with my

attributes to coping with stress. The content has given me an open mind on how I can fix

upcoming challenges, with school or work.
