Components of Computer System

The document discusses the components of a computer system including hardware, software, data/information, and users. It explains that hardware are the physical parts, software are the instructions that run the system, data/information is the input and output, and users operate the system and benefit from it. The document provides details about each component.

Components of Computer System

Prof. M Bilal
System
● A system is a combination of related components that interact with
each other to perform specific tasks.
● System is created to solve problems.
● A problem must exist before the development of a system.
● Going School, office, trip and wedding ceremony could be daily life
problems.
● First we find out a problem statement and then we make a system
to solve our problem.

Components of a System
There are five system components.

1. Hardware: The physical parts required to develop a system.

2. Software: The instructions run the system smoothly.
3. User: User uses the system and gets benefits from the system.
4. Data/Information: Data is input provided to the system and
information is output obtained from the system.
5. Communication Setup: Transmission of information from one
place to another

Components of Computer System
Computers come in many varieties, from the tiny computers built into
household appliances, to the astounding supercomputers that have
helped scientists map the human genome. But no matter how big it is or
how it is used, every computer is part of a system. A complete computer
system consist of four components.
1. Hardware
2. Software
3. Data/Information
4. User

1. Hardware
● The mechanical devices that make up the computer are called
hardware.
● Hardware is any part of the computer you can touch.
● Replacement of hardware for the old one, or additional hardware
developed to improve the performance of the existing hardware.
● The hardware of a computer could be damaged and we need to
replace that particular hardware.
● Without hardware we can't operate the software.

2. Software
● Software is a set of instructions that makes the computer perform
tasks
● Program tells the computer what to do, term program refers to any
piece of software.
● Some programs exist primarily for the computer's use to help it
perform tasks and manage its own resources.
● Some programs exist for the user, enabling him or her to perform
tasks such as creating documents.
● Hardware is useless without the software.

3. Data/Information
● Data consist of individual facts or pieces of information that by
themselves may not make much sense to a person.
● A computer’s primary job is to process these tiny pieces of data in
various ways, converting them into useful information.
● For example, if you saw the average highway mileages of six
different cars, all the different pieces of data might not mean much
to you. However; if someone created a chart from the data that
visually compared and ranked the vehicles’ mileages, you could
probably make sense of it at a glance

4. User
● People are the computer operators, also known as users.
● Some computer systems are complete without a person’s
involvement; however, no computer is totally autonomous.
● Even if a computer can do its job without a person sitting in front
of it, people still design, build, program, and repair computer
systems.
● This lack of autonomy is especially true of personal computer
systems.
