Name of Activity – Mother’s Day gift wrap

Originating Idea
At morning message, when the teacher mentioned Mother’s Day is coming up, Ben and
Mia asked the teacher they want to wrap their Mother’s Day gift that they painted previous day.
(canvas painting)

Materials they need -Mini canvas painting, Gift wrap, scissors, washi tape, stickers and markers.

Beginning of Activity
Opening statement
Friends, since we have Mother’s Day coming up, our painting that we did for our mom is
ready to be wrapped, what do you think we may need?

Middle of Activity – Ben said, “I know, we need paper, Mia said tape, Leo said we can add
stickers, Luna said I want to draw rainbow on the wrap. So, Teacher said, all your bins have
some materials let’s see how you can use them. Lea said I know how to gift wrap, we did it for
my Gigi, we use tape to stick paper around the gift.
Early Extension:
Children will be able to explore materials, cut small pieces of paper and try to wrap.
Some children may need help with cutting tape and trying to wrap. They may need help
cutting the paper as well.
Middle:
Most Children will be able to cut tape, using teachers help or friends and wrap the canvas
using tape.

Later Extension:
Children will be able to wrap the canvas, write or draw on the gift wrap on their own and
add stickers.
To extend the activity, children can wrap the mini canvas and try to tie a ribbon around
the gift , add From note on the gift and sign their name.

End of Activity
When children finish up the activity, the teacher can ask each child (reflection) what do
they love about their mothers, and how they plan to celebrate mother’s day, before they can pick
a area they want to play at during worktime. (next transition)

Follow-up Ideas –
1. These materials can be added to the sensory table, and children can pick any toy in the
classroom and gift wrap it (during work time). KDI A3 Engagement: Children focus on activities that
interest them.
2. Children can gift wrap one toy and bring it to the large group, where children will try to guess
before they reveal the toy. KDI G 48. Predicting: Children predict what they expect will
happen.

2. Name of Activity – Flower Bracelets

Originating Idea
Previously during outside recess, children liked to pick up glowers (dandelions) in the
playground and collecting them. Lea said I want to make my mom a flower bracelet.

Beginning of Activity
Opening statement
Today we will have our small group outside, I noticed you all liked collecting flowers
and taking them home for your loved one, Lea wanted to make a bracelet. How can we do that?
So we can take the materials with us outside?

Middle of Activity – Children said we can stick them on the hand, we can stick the flowers on
pipe cleaner (we made beads bracelet using pipe cleaner).
(Which method do you think is a easy method, tape or pipe cleaners?
Early Extension:
Some Children will be able to cut a piece of tape and start looking for flowers, some may
need hep cutting the tape, while they may have less or no flowers on the tape.
Middle:
Children will be able to find many flowers and arrange them one by one on the sticky
side of the tape.

Later Extension:
Children will ask to make more than one flower bracelet and will want to try sticking
flowers on the pipe cleaners too.
End of Activity
Children can count how many flowers they have stuck on the tape bracelet. Say the
number of flowers and transition to the next activity.

Follow-up Ideas –
1.Children can collect flowers and bring them in and can use them to make cards for loved ones

We can take it home. We can glue on paper.
Early Extension:
Some children may walk just exploring and observing nature.
Middle:
Children may pick up same materials, like only sticks, we can help by encouraging them
to look in new spots for other nature materials.

Later Extension:
Children can pick up varied materials and return to the classroom.

End of Activity
Children will discuss the materials collected and talk about where we can find them and
how they change with seasons.

Follow-up Ideas –
1. Create a collage the next day with all the collected materials. G. Science and Technology

in their environment.
2. Children can look at the materials and identify what letter the material start with example,
S-stick, L-leaf.
D. Language, Literacy, and Communication25. Alphabetic knowledge: Children identify
letter names and their sounds.
