 Weathering describes the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and

 Weathering refers to the group of destructive forces that change the

physical or chemical character of rock near the earth’s surface.
Weathering is divided into two processes known as the Mechanical
Weathering and Chemical Weathering

Mechanical Weathering- also known as a physical weathering is the

breaking down od rocks into smaller pieces. The change in the rock is
physical with little or no chemical change. Example of Mechanical
Weathering includes frost action, abrasion and pressure release.
 Chemical Weathering- Is the decomposition of rock from exposure to
water and atmospheric gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen and water vapor.
It involves the interaction of rock with mineral solutions (chemicals) In this
process, water interact with minerals to create various chemical reaction and
transform the rocks.

Erosion is the geological process in which earthen materials are worn away
and transported by natural forces such as wind or water. A similar process,
weathering, breaks down or dissolves rock, but does not involve movement.

Weathering describes the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and

animals, and changes in temperature are all agents of weathering. Once a

produces construction materials like clay and the remnants of weathered
