D EXPLAIN What is Manager?

Managers connect the employees to employers
on a large scale. They are the ones who bring up the
concerns of every individual or subordinate under
their department or team. In turn, they are the ones
who relay the directives and pointers of chief
executives and top management officials to their
subordinates.

Managers as Decision-Makers
Managers are critical not only because they are the
bridge of the management to its subordinates but
more importantly, they see the company from the
top-level perspective and the perspective of every
employee. Therefore, they handle the crucial
decision-making process in a company.

Effectiveness and Efficiency

2
All of the aforementioned tasks or skills of a
manager are an introduction to what is really in store
for them. Two of the most important characteristics
all managers across the firm should possess are
effectiveness and efficiency.

Functions of Management
As you go through the process of deeply
understanding what a manager really is, it is
important to understand that managers have
different tasks to fulfill. A manager’s functions are
vast; therefore, they are grouped into five categories:
planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing,
and controlling.

Planning
● Planning is usually done at the start of any
task or venture.
● It is preparing for what is going to happen,
looking at all possible scenarios.

Organizing
● This is where they design the organizational
structure.
● It also highlights the forming of the company’s
chain-of-command and reporting
relationships.

Staffing
● Staffing is concerned with the hiring,
selection, and training of individuals.
○ Selection is the process of
administering examinations and
conducting interviews of applicants.
○ Hiring is where applicants are already
given job offers and asked for pre-
employment requirements.

Leading
● Leading is the most obvious and eminent
managerial function.
● It is also concerned with how managers
motivate their subordinates.

Controlling
Controlling doesn't necessarily mean that
managers should control the actions of their
subordinates. It is more of being a mediator when
problems arise.

management functions? You may benchmark by

companies, particularly their marketing styles and
strategies. Be reminded that you are to promote the
product using social media marketing.

● Planning: What will be your marketing style or

strategy, and how are you going to execute it?
● Organizing: What are the resources you will
need to execute your marketing style or strategy?
● Staffing: Who are the people you will need to
execute your plan? What will be their respective
tasks?
● Leading: How will you motivate your team?
● Controlling: What will you do if there are
members of your team who would not be able to
